Reports To: Athletic Director

Pay: $25.00 per hour

FLSA Status: Part-Time (Non-Exempt)

Summary:

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Carlsbad is looking for two enthusiastic and reliable Cross-Country Coaches to lead the Aviara Oaks Middle School team and Valley Middle School team through a successful fall season. The ideal candidate is passionate about running, youth development, and building a positive team culture where all athletes are supported and challenged to improve.

Key Responsibilities:

• Supervise and coach full cross-country team (up to 30 runners)
• Plan and lead warm-ups, distance workouts, hill repeats, and cool-downs
• Track athlete performance and provide feedback on technique, pacing, and goals
• Supervise athletes before, during, and after all practices and meets
• Support team at all scheduled league meets and special invitationals
• Travel with the team to MEETS
• Communicate clearly with parents and athletic director via TeamSnap
• Ensure athlete safety, hydration, and positive conduct throughout season

Requirements:

• Cross country, distance running, or coaching background preferred
• Must be 18 or older and pass background check
• Able to commit to all practices and meets, including travel meets
• Reliable transportation to practices and meet locations
• High energy, strong communication skills, and love of working with youth athletes

Locations:

Two School Locations (you will always have practice at the location your assigned to):

• Valley Middle School: 1645 Magnolia Ave, Carlsbad
• Aviara Oaks Middle School: 6880 Ambrosia Ln, Carlsbad, CA 92011

First Day of season: August 31st

Last Day of season: October 26th - Nov 5th (depends on last meet scheduled)

Practices for Valley Middle:

• Monday/Tuesday 2:45pm - 4:00pm (coaches show up at 2:30pm)
• Thursdays 1:45pm - 3:15pm (coaches show up at 1:30pm)

Aviara Oaks Middle School Coach has different schedule due to school release time

Practices for Aviara Middle:

• Monday/Tuesday 2:30pm - 4:00pm (coaches show up at 2:20pm)
• Thursdays 1:30pm - 3:00pm (coaches show up at 1:20pm)

Program Highlights:

• 5-8 total meets including Mt. SAC Invitational
• Uniforms and meet entries covered by the Club
• No tryouts or cuts – Cross Country is inclusive and performance-based
• Athletes are encouraged to lead, support teammates, and track progress
• Final awards and pizza party for all runners
