ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The Assistant Swim Coach is responsible for assisting the Head Coach in managing the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Westfield Rapids Swim Team, competitive swim program. The Assistant Swim Coach provides individual and group coaching with emphasis on safety, proper skill development, and team member development. This position assists in maintaining a safe environment, enforces all pool rules and follows all required emergency procedures, while teaching kids how to swim.
KEY RESPONSIBILITES:
- Assists the Head Coach with instructing members in the rules, regulations, equipment, and techniques of the sport.
- Organizes and directs individual and group practice activities/exercises as directed by the Head Coach.
- Assists with entries and coverage for meets, as well as maintaining individual swim achievements.
- Assists the Head Coach with supervising athletes during practices and competitions.
· Help set up & clean the pool area before and after practices & clinics
- Participate in special activities to include but not limited to parent meetings, banquet award nights, and preparation of the event.
- Communicate effectively with the Head Coach about daily practice procedures, emergencies, and information regarding swimmers and swim team wellbeing.
- Promote good sportsmanship, strong team spirit, provide encouraging feedback, and positive recognition.
- Engage parents and cultivate relationships to create a collaborative swimming environment.
- Be available for questions or concerns from parents or swimmers.
Report all problems and concerns to the Aquatics Director
MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS
· Must be 18 years of age.
· Current American Red Cross CPR, First Aid, AED for the Professional Rescuer required
· Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
· Group leadership skills, including an understanding of group dynamics.
· Citizenship, residency or work VISA in United States required
· Able to pass a Background record check
· Agree to be enrolled in First Advantage monthly monitoring
· Knowledge of principles related to development of youth between 5 and 18 years of age
· Knowledge of swimming and stroke mechanics of youth between 5 and 18 years of age
· Strong organizational, communication, leadership, technology, and interpersonal skills
· Demonstrated ability to effectively work with others and provide leadership to youth and adults
· Knowledge of youth development
- Ability to motivate youth and manage behavior issues
- Competitive swimming experience and strong knowledge of stroke mechanics
- Experience with effectively coaching competitive swimmers
- Group leadership skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to plan and implement quality programs for members

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work environment is fast paced in a swimming pool setting. Exposure to heated/air conditioned and ventilated facilities. The noise level is usually moderate to high. General conditions must include the ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time; enter data into a computer; to see and read a computer screen and printed materials. Hear and understand speech at normal levels, physical agility to lift up to 50 pounds, and to bend, stoop, sit on the floor, climb stairs, walk and reach overhead. Able to perform duties related to the cleanliness and maintenance of the classroom and any outside space the children will be utilizing.
