Position: Head Boys Swimming Coach
School: Ellington High School
Season: Winter
Reports To: Director of Athletics and Wellness
Ellington High School is seeking a qualified and enthusiastic individual to serve as the Head Coach of the Boys Swimming program. The head coach is responsible for providing leadership and direction to the program while promoting sportsmanship, academic achievement, personal growth, and a positive team culture.
The successful candidate will demonstrate strong knowledge of competitive swimming, effective communication skills, and a commitment to providing a positive experience for Ellington student-athletes.
Responsibilities include:
- Plan, organize, and supervise all practices, meets, and team activities.
- Teach proper swimming techniques, training methods, race strategies, and conditioning.
- Promote sportsmanship, teamwork, accountability, and respect among student-athletes.
- Maintain a safe and positive environment for all participants.
- Communicate effectively with student-athletes, families, school administration, athletic staff, and opposing programs.
- Work collaboratively with the Director of Athletics regarding scheduling, transportation, equipment, facilities, and other program needs.
- Ensure compliance with Ellington Public Schools, NCCC, and CIAC policies and regulations.
- Monitor student-athlete eligibility and reinforce the importance of academics and appropriate school conduct.
- Supervise student-athletes before, during, and after practices and competitions.
- Maintain team equipment and uniforms and assist with inventory and distribution.
- Develop the swimming program and encourage participation and continued growth of the program.
- Attend required coaches' meetings, trainings, and professional development.
- Complete all required certifications and documentation prior to the start of the season.
Qualifications:
- Previous swimming coaching and/or competitive swimming experience preferred.
- Strong knowledge of swimming techniques, training principles, and meet procedures.
- Ability to work effectively with high school student-athletes.
- Strong organizational, leadership, and communication skills.
- Must meet all CIAC and Ellington Public Schools coaching certification requirements, including required CPR/AED and First Aid certifications.
- Must successfully complete all district-required background checks and employment requirements.
Preferred Qualifications: Previous high school, club, or collegiate swimming coaching experience and demonstrated experience building a positive team culture and developing student-athletes at varying ability levels.
Compensation: Per the Ellington Public Schools coaching stipend schedule.
