Position Overview
The Cafe Manager at Boxcar Coffee Roasters is a detail-oriented, organized, and proactive leader who is committed to delivering exceptional hospitality experiences for both staff and customers. This role requires an individual who leads by example, consistently upholds company standards, and fosters a positive, high-performance work environment. The Cafe Manager will be responsible for overseeing the operations of the cafe including but not limited to staff hiring and management, organizing of special events/orders, ensuring company standards of quality and service are upheld by all, maintaining proper inventory levels and managing COGs to encourage and promote profitability of the cafe. Additionally, the Cafe Manager communicates effectively with company leadership and cafe staff regarding needs of their department and strives to advocate for their team while keeping company goals, values and business realities in mind.
General expectation is 40-45 hrs with an on average work-type balance of: 30% Scheduled Bar Shifts / 70% Manager hours
Key Responsibilities:
- Operational: Oversee daily café operations, ensuring smooth workflow and consistent service.
- Staff Hiring & Training: Recruit and onboard new employees, maintain healthy staffing levels so that we can meet our hospitality and business goals. **Training is supported by our education department and assistant manager.
- Staff Management: Lead a staff 12-14 baristas, guiding and motivating them to meet Boxcar’s standards for hospitality, customer service, hygiene and cleanliness.
- Staff Development: Provide real-time coaching and regular performance reviews to ensure staff are continuously improving and meeting performance expectations.
- Quality Control: Ensure all café staff consistently meets Boxcar's quality standards for food, beverages, and service through regular monitoring and feedback.
- Customer Experience: Ensure that the retail team fosters a welcoming and engaging environment for customers, ensuring Boxcar’s high standards of hospitality and service are upheld at all times.
- Inventory Management: Ensure the café is properly-stocked and organized while maintaining accurate inventory records, as well as handling receipts and invoices.
- Team Culture: Maintain a positive, energetic work atmosphere, ensuring the café remains a place of high morale and quality work through modeling of our company values.
- Compliance: Ensure adherence to all company policies, including dress code, health and safety regulations, and operational guidelines.
- Management Collaboration: Attend weekly management meetings and provide updates to the Operations manager on staff performance, customer feedback, and café operations. Assist in the development and implementation of café systems.
