Certified Coder/Billing Clerk Responsibilities
- Review and code medical records using ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS
- Prepare and submit medical and behavioral health claims to insurance companies
- Verify insurance coverage and follow up on pending or denied claims
- Correct errors and appeal denied claims to ensure proper reimbursement
- Assist patients with billing questions, payment plans, and collecting co-pays
- Maintain organized patient files and accurate documentation
- Use NextGen system to review, correct, and manage patient encounters
- Collaborate with providers, patients, and insurance companies to resolve billing issues
- Certified coder (AHIMA or AAPC)
- At least 2 years of experience in medical or behavioral health billing and coding
- Certificate from a medical institute or an Associate of Arts or Science degree
- Proficiency in Word and Outlook
- Experience working in medical or behavioral health settings
- Highly organized with strong attention to detail
