Overview:

The Part-Time School Counselor will play a key role in supporting the social, emotional, and academic development of students. This role involves working with students individually and in groups, collaborating with teachers, parents, and school staff, and contributing to the creation of a positive and inclusive school environment. This person will be observing and tracking student behaviors over time and in various environments, and working with faculty on intervention strategies and accommodation implementation. The counselor will focus on promoting student well-being, supporting students with identified needs, and working from a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) lens to foster a sense of belonging within the school community.

Note: This is a part time opportunity (3 days per week, approximately 24 hours per week) during the school year (August- May) with the following schedule:

Wednesdays: 8:00am - 4:30pm

Fridays: 8:00am- 3:30pm

Either Mondays, Tuesdays or Thursdays: 7:30am- 3:30pm

Responsibilities:

Individual and Group Counseling: Provide individual and group counseling to students, addressing a range of issues including social, emotional, behavioral, and academic challenges.

Parent Education and Coaching: Offer guidance and coaching to parents to support their child's emotional and academic development and facilitate communication between parents and school staff. This position also requires leading educational presentations for families, faculty and staff.

Teacher Coaching and Collaboration: Work closely with teachers to provide coaching regarding strategies for supporting students' emotional well-being, behavior management, and classroom engagement.

Behavioral Observation and Intervention: Observe and track students’ behavior in various school settings, develop behavioral intervention strategies, and collaborate with staff to implement them effectively. Experience with MTSS behavioral intervention preferred.

Design and Implementation of Accommodations: Assist in the development and implementation of accommodations for students with identified needs, working closely with the Learning Center, families, and other relevant school staff.

Individual Learning Plans: Collaborate with the Learning Center to create and monitor individual learning plans and support plans for students, ensuring that each student's specific needs are met.

Crisis Intervention and Safety Assessments: Provide immediate crisis intervention when needed, conduct safety and risk assessments, and work with the appropriate staff to ensure the safety and well-being of students.

Written and Verbal Communication: Maintain clear, professional, and timely written and verbal communication with students, parents, teachers, and administration.

Community Building and DEI Focus: Support efforts to create a welcoming and inclusive school environment, with a focus on belonging and the values of diversity, equity, and inclusion. Facilitate programs and initiatives that promote these values.

Staff Meetings and Professional Development: Actively participate in school staff meetings, professional development sessions, and supervision with the Director of Counseling to stay current with best practices and continually improve counseling services.

Collaboration with the Learning Center: Work closely with the Learning Center team to ensure that students with special needs are supported holistically, with a focus on academic, emotional, and social development.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree and Licensed in School Counseling or Social Work.
  • Previous experience in school counseling or working with PS- 8th grade students in an educational setting.
  • Strong understanding of child development, behavioral interventions (experience with MTSS behavioral intervention), and mental health support.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations and a commitment to fostering inclusion.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • An ability and desire to lead educational presentations for families, faculty and staff.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
  • Ability to manage sensitive situations with discretion and professionalism.
  • Knowledge of and experience with safety protocols, mandates, and crisis management.

Pay: $40.00 - $50.00 per hour
