Position Overview

We are seeking a caring and enthusiastic Part-Time Upper School Robotics Coach to join our community for the 2026–27 school year, beginning August 1, 2026.

This position supports students after school and on weekends as needed, with an anticipated commitment of approximately 410 hours annually, excluding competitions. Weekly hours will vary throughout the year. Practice times are currently held after school from 3:45 pm to 5:30 pm Monday through Thursday, from mid-November until the last competition, typically in April. Additional weekend practice times are offered January through April and are four hours. The team takes five weeks off during the season for school holidays and class trips. The team attends one to two regional tournaments and one to two scrimmages per season. The final schedule will be developed in collaboration with the selected candidate.

Position is Part-Time (.20 FTE)

Yearly Salary Range: $10,000-$15,000

Compensation is commensurate with experience, relevant skills, and the number of hours committed to the program. This position is not eligible for benefits.

Professional And Personal Qualifications

What You’ll Need to Get the Job Done

  • A degree or certificate in machining, engineering, computer science, or a related field
  • Experience with FIRST Robotics
  • Experience with machining equipment, such as CNC, chop saw, bandsaw, and lathe
  • Teaching experience preferred
  • Demonstrated strong classroom management and student engagement skills
  • Warm, approachable demeanor with a genuine enjoyment of working with students
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Collaborative, team-oriented mindset with a strong sense of personal responsibility and professionalism
  • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and upholding high ethical and professional standards
  • Proficiency with Google Workspace tools (Drive, Docs, Sheets) and Discord
  • Enthusiasm for work with all school constituencies
  • Ability to model school virtues of respect, compassion, courage, and integrity

Job Duties And Responsibilities

  • Report to and collaborate closely with the Director of Upper School
  • Organize and monitor the high school FIRST Robotics team
  • Coordinate with faculty, parents, students, and mentor volunteers to create team leadership and support structures
  • Maintain and improve the robotics workspace for student safety and ease of use
  • Communicate with sponsoring organizations, purchase supplies, register for competitions, create schedules, and build teams
  • Facilitate the team in building a robot that can accomplish the team's desired missions
  • Organize and facilitate group travel to regional tournaments and local scrimmages. Fly or drive a minibus with approximately 14 students. Chaperone students at accommodations for 3-4 nights per tournament.
  • Develop and maintain partnerships with local businesses and community organizations to secure mentorship opportunities and funding support
  • Manage team budgeting, fundraising, and purchasing
  • Lead students in science, technology, engineering, and math through establishing goals and timelines
  • Establish ground rules to provide a safe and nurturing environment
  • Carry out additional responsibilities as needed to support the mission and daily life of the School
