What are the responsibilities and job description for the MAINTENANCE WORKER I position at BOROUGH OF SHIPPENSBURG?
The Borough of Shippensburg is seeking a motivated individual to join the Water Department as a Maintenance Worker I. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to build a long-term career in the municipal water industry while serving the community.
As part of the Department, you will help operate and maintain the public water distribution system that provides safe, reliable drinking water to thousands of customers throughout the Borough and surrounding service area.
What You’ll Do
· Repair and maintain water mains, valves, hydrants, and service lines.
· Assist with new water main construction and capital improvement projects.
· Perform water service installations and meter replacements.
· Respond to water main breaks and emergency repairs.
· Operate trucks, equipment, power tools, and hand tools.
· Perform PA One Call utility locating.
· Assist with hydrant flushing, valve exercising, hydrant maintenance, and system inspection.
· Maintain accurate records and complete assigned work orders.
· Participate in an on-call rotation after completing training.
Qualifications
· High School Diploma or GED
· Valid Pennsylvania driver’s license
· Ability to obtain a Pennsylvania Commercial Driver’s License (CDL)
· Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
· Ability to safely perform physically demanding work, including lifting, digging, climbing, and working in confined spaces.
· Mechanical aptitude and a willingness to learn
Water Utility experience is helpful but not required. We are willing to train the right candidate.
