As an AI Research Scientist, you understand that cutting-edge theory is only as valuable as its ability to drive real-world outcomes. Your background in advanced mathematics, machine learning, or theoretical computer science gives you the tools to redefine what's possible when research meets application. We need your intellectual horsepower and rigorous training to help us scale high-impact R&D into tangible defense technology that supports critical missions, including for the U.S. Air Force.

On our applied AI team, you’ll go beyond deploying off-the-shelf models. You’ll invent, refine, and operationalize next-generation algorithms that push the limits of AI performance in contested and constrained environments. You’ll collaborate with a small, elite team of analysts, defense mission experts, and engineers to transition theory into fielded capabilities, bringing emerging academic ideas into production-grade systems. Your work will directly impact national security outcomes and redefine how the Department of Defense leverages advanced AI.

You Have:

• Experience conducting original research in AI, machine learning, applied mathematics, optimization, or algorithm design

• Experience publishing peer-reviewed research or applying novel AI or mathematical techniques in real-world, high-stakes systems

• Knowledge of advanced theoretical frameworks such as statistical learning theory, control theory, high-dimensional geometry, or Bayesian inference

• Ability to translate theoretical models into performant, deployable prototypes using tools such as Python, PyTorch, or JAX

• Ability to obtain a TS/SCI clearance

• Doctorate degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Applied Mathematics, or Physics

Nice If You Have:

• Experience as a postdoctoral fellow, assistant professor, or research scientist at a top-tier institution

• Experience transitioning theoretical work into deployed systems or high Technology Readiness Level (TRL) prototypes

• Experience with secure computing environments or deploying AI in contested or edge settings

• TS/SCI clearance

Salary at Booz Allen is determined by various factors, including but not limited to location, the individual’s particular combination of education, knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience, as well as contract-specific affordability and organizational requirements. The projected compensation range for this position is $77,600.00 to $176,000.00 (annualized USD). The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position and is just one component of Booz Allen’s total compensation package for employees.
