Phlebotomist

This position plays an essential role in providing quality patient care by performing venipuncture procedures, collecting laboratory specimens, and supporting the daily operations of the outpatient laboratory.

Essential Functions 

• Perform venipuncture and specimen collection for patients of all age groups
• Verify patient identity and ensure accurate specimen labeling
• Collect blood and urine specimens according to laboratory policies and procedures
• Maintain aseptic technique and infection control standards
• Assist with chain-of-custody drug testing collections
• Transport specimens safely to the laboratory
• Answer phones and assist patients and staff professionally
• Perform clerical duties and maintain organized records
• Keep work areas clean, stocked, and orderly
• Work collaboratively with providers, nurses, laboratory staff, and supervisors
• Participate in continuing education and performance improvement initiatives

Skills, Qualifications, and Competencies

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Formal phlebotomy training
• Valid Phlebotomy Certification
• CPR Certification
• Valid driver’s license
• Point of Care Technician License (or ability to obtain upon hire)

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous phlebotomy experience preferred
• Experience with CLIA Waived Testing preferred
• Knowledge of laboratory equipment and procedures

Physical Requirements

This position requires a combination of sitting, standing, walking, lifting, bending, reaching, and coordination of multiple tasks throughout the workday.
