Phlebotomist

Boone Memorial Hospital is seeking a Phlebotomist to support laboratory operations by providing safe, accurate, and compassionate specimen collection services. This role is essential to delivering high-quality patient care and ensuring compliance with hospital policies and applicable federal, state, and local regulations.

The Phlebotomist is responsible for obtaining and preparing specimens for analysis, performing screening tests, and assisting with related patient care activities across all age groups.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Collect routine, timed, and STAT specimens

• Verify proper patient identification prior to specimen collection

• Provide age-appropriate care to neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients

• Transport specimens to the laboratory in accordance with infection prevention and control standards

• Collect chain-of-custody specimens when required

• Answer incoming calls, assess needs, and respond appropriately

• Follow all hospital policies, procedures, and safety standards

Required Skills and Qualifications

• Proficiency in phlebotomy competencies as outlined in competency assessments

• Strong verbal and written communication skills

• Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills

• Strong organizational skills with attention to detail

• Effective time management and prioritization skills

• Analytical and problem-solving abilities

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office or similar software

Education and Experience

Preferred:

• Certification from an accredited Phlebotomy or Medical Assistant program

Minimum:

• High School Diploma or equivalent

Physical Requirements

• Ability to sit for extended periods and work on a computer

• Ability to lift up to 25 pounds as needed
