IP Docketing Specialist – Patent & Trademark

A highly regarded Washington, DC law firm is seeking an IP Docketing Specialist to join its intellectual property team. This is an excellent opportunity to learn patent and trademark docketing, handle interesting work, and enjoy a hybrid schedule in a collaborative environment. Training will be provided.

You’ll work with U.S. and international patent and trademark matters and play an important role in keeping deadlines, filings, correspondence, and docket records accurate and up to date.

What You’ll Do

• Docket U.S. and foreign patent and trademark applications and related deadlines
• Review and process incoming correspondence from the USPTO, WIPO, foreign associates, and other sources, including documents related to Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) applications
• Review transfer-in files and accurately update docketing records
• Monitor incoming and outgoing correspondence and update the docket accordingly
• Review and clear daily dockets to ensure deadlines are properly tracked and required actions are completed
• Process electronic filing receipts and assist with filing quality control
• Identify potential filing errors or omissions and bring them to the appropriate team member’s attention
• Prepare client status and docket reports for attorneys
• Process matter changes, case closings, assignment changes, and other attorney requests
• Conduct electronic searches using USPTO, WIPO, and foreign IP office websites
• Provide overflow docketing support and team coverage as needed

What We’re Looking For

• Two years of professional office experience
• Some IP experience preferred; training will be provided
• Some college coursework preferred; a college degree is a plus
• Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to manage multiple deadlines and competing priorities
• A collaborative, team-oriented approach
• Flexibility to work overtime when needed
