WHAT YOU’LL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR IN THIS ROLE

The Director of Transportation is responsible for leading and optimizing all transportation and logistics activities that directly support customer fulfillment, sales execution, and service performance for Bolthouse Fresh Foods. This role bridges Transportation, Sales, Customer Management, and Operations to ensure cost-effective, reliable, and customer-focused movement of goods. The Director develops transportation strategies that align with commercial objectives, strengthens carrier & rail partnerships, and ensures service levels meet or exceed customer expectations.

  • Develop and execute transportation strategies aligned with sales goals, customer commitments, and operational capacity.
  • Lead and manage the relationship with the transportation team both internally and externally (Generous Brands), providing direction, performance management, and professional development.
  • Establish transportation policies, procedures, and governance to ensure consistency, efficiency, and compliance.
  • Partner closely with Sales and Customer Management teams to support customer requirements, service-level agreements (SLA’s), and growth initiatives.
  • Act as a transportation subject matter expert in customer meetings, sales planning and contract discussions.
  • Resolve escalated customer transportation and service issues with a focus on a long-term relationship management.
  • Design and optimize transportation networks, modes, and routing to balance service, cost, and capacity.
  • Manage freight budgets, rate negotiations, and carrier contracts to achieve cost savings and margin improvement.
  • Analyze freight spend, service metrics, and trends to drive continuous improvement and data-driven decisions.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with carriers rail, brokers, and third-party logistics providers.
  • Lead carrier and rail sourcing, bid events, system set up process, performance reviews, and corrective action plans.
  • Ensure adequate capacity during peak seasons and market disruptions common to ag/manufacturing environments.
  • Oversee day-to-day transportation execution to ensure on-time, in-full delivery performance.
  • Ensure compliance with DOT, safety, environmental, and regulatory and export requirements.
  • Collaborate with Operations, Supply Chain, and Manufacturing teams to align production, inventory, and shipping plans.
  • Define and track KPI’s such as on-time delivery, freight cost per unit, and customer satisfaction.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives leveraging Lean, Six Sigma, or similar methodologies.
  • Champion transportation technology solutions (TMS, visibility tools, analytics) to enhance execution and reporting.
  • Provide strategic leadership for transportation claims and carrier disbursement process , collaborating with Finance, Legal, Operations, and third-party carriers to ensure efficient resolution, contractual compliance, and cost containment.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree Supply Chain, Logistics, Business or related field
  • 8-12 years of progressive transportation or logistics experience, including leadership roles.
  • Experience supporting Sales and Customer Management functions in an ag, manufacturing, or industrial environment.
  • Strong knowledge of domestic transportation modes, freight markets, and carrier management.
  • Proven ability to manage budgets, negotiate contracts, and deliver cost savings.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree Supply Chain, Logistics, Business or related field

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Work is performed primarily in a standard office environment with frequent interruptions.
  • Ability and mobility to work in an office setting; to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time; to occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist.
  • Lift, carry, push, and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight up to 50 lbs.
  • Operate office equipment requires repetitive hand movement and fine coordination including use of a computer keyboard.

HOURS & WORKDAYS:

1st Shift – 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM; Monday through Friday, weekends and holidays may be mandatory based on business needs.
