Park Ambassador

JOB SUMMARY
Under the direction of the Director of Buildings, Grounds, and Natural Resources, the Park Ambassador is responsible for the effective and efficient supervision, safety and usage of our parks and athletic fields.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & TRAINING
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Must be at least 21 year of age
  • Must have at least one year of Customer Service experience with good communication skills, problem solving, solid judgement and safety awareness.
  • Ability to speak English and other languages a plus
  • Knowledge of Athletic games and set up a plus
  • Must have a valid driver’s license in good standing
  • CPR/AED/First Aid certification required within 6 months of employment

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
  • Ability to work independently and without supervision
  • Have good communication skills to interact with participants, groups and visitors
  • Ability to make sound decisions
  • Must be able to work outdoors in green and wet areas and in all types of weather
  • Ability to follow Park District rules/policies and enforce them

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Observes and supervises all park areas and activities, specific parks and parking lots.
  • Enforces park rules and regulations for individuals and groups. Reports any illegal activity to local police.
  • Monitors who are using the parks and whose group activities are properly scheduled and permitted.
  • Notes and reports on any maintenance issues to the Director of Buildings, Grounds, and Natural Resources.
  • Establishes a positive rapport with park users of all ages and ethnicity.
  • Documents observations and actions by completing reports that may require testimony in court.
  • Be familiar with and adhere to all regulations outlined in the Park District General Use ordinances.
  • Promotes park district activities with park users.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Buildings, Grounds and Natural Resources.
  • Abide by the Bolingbrook Park District dress code for your area.
  • Perform all job tasks within the rules and guidelines of the Park District’s safety program.
  • Work as a team player with co-workers and in conjunction with other departments.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Talking/Hearing: to effectively communicate with participants, supervisor and groups
  • Seeing: to drive and walk to parks and fields, to write notes and use computer
  • Walking: to walk through parks & fields, to meet with participants
  • Driving: to get to parks & fields, to move equipment
  • Lifting: to help with equipment set up and take down, to close off areas, to lift up to 50 pounds for 25 yards
  • Sitting: to drive a car, work at a computer, to write notes to talk with participants
  • Pushing/Pulling: to block area or open them up, to move equipment


NOTE: The Park Ambassador may perform duties in the medium to heavy work level (lifting 75 lbs. infrequently).


COGNITIVE CONSIDERATIONS

Environmental Considerations:
Ability to work in outside weather conditions; wet and/or humid conditions, extreme cold and extreme heat. Ability to work around various outdoor contaminants, such as herbicides, and airborne and plant allergens.

Cognitive Considerations:
Must demonstrate strong leadership qualities, be a self-starter willing to work with minimal supervision. Must be trustworthy and value the park district and the community members and participants.

The Park Ambassador may feel stress from responsibility of the position. The employee
must resolve problems that arise with park users and keep supervisor informed.

Ability to exercise good judgment in keeping with the mission of the Park District. Must be able to troubleshoot and solve problems in the best interest of the Park District.

The ability to resolve differences fairly and with good judgment.


HOURS
Weekends Saturday 10a-7p Sundays 10a-6p. Hours may vary depending on rentals each day.
This is a seasonal job working from May to September.
