Position Summary
The Systems Control Specialist is responsible for the installation, configuration, repair, and ongoing maintenance of the district’s physical security systems and related services. This includes video surveillance, access control, emergency communications, and intrusion alarm systems that are critical to ensuring the safety and security of students, staff, and facilities.
Minimum Requirements
- High school diploma or GED equivalent recognized by the Texas Education Agency or a regional accrediting agency.
- Two (2) years of equivalent work experience.
- Must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
- Experience with centralized and decentralized storage architecture.
- 2 years of experience interpreting data from a variety of network and service monitoring systems.
- 2 years of experience installing and managing Microsoft Windows Servers and Workstation Operating Systems.

Essential Functions/Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate work with appropriate Technology staff and vendors to ensure equitable and ubiquitous access of authorized services.
- Coordinate with appropriate departments, district staff, and vendors to maintain current pricing and quotes regarding standard district software and services.
- Work with manufacturers, contractors, subcontractors, and vendor technical support to resolve problems as needed.
- Ensure a timely response to the service request for physical security related issues.
- Evaluate and recommend new technologies, methods, and systems that ensure efficient and effective operations.
- Provide informed leadership regarding physical security issues (compatibility, specifications, content, etc.).
- Effectively and confidentially facilitate digital forensic investigations as directed by the Technology leadership, BISD Human Resources department, authorized BISD legal partners, law enforcement, or other authorized governing agencies.
- Conduct periodic hardware and software inventory assessments.
- Participates in security assessments and audits.
- Prepare, review, and present technical reports and briefings.
- Categorize and prioritize incidents, requests, inquiries, and tasks according to SLA and other IT protocols.
- Participate in department and district planning to ensure the effective use of all technologies being implemented in the school district.
- Work with other BISD departments and campus personnel to resolve issues with related system problems or issues.
- Report to supervisor to provide support and recommendations for identified issues, projects, and initiatives.
- Explore the enterprise and industry for evolving state of industry knowledge and methods regarding best practices.
- Create and maintain support documentation within the knowledge base concerning software and systems that support the goals of the department and the district.
- Perform knowledge transfer sessions with team members as needed.
- Attend any appropriate training, in-service, workshop programs, and required meetings.
- Prepare documentation on applications, system procedures, and best practices for review and distribution to district staff as needed.
- Explore ways to improve processes and procedures that result in increased efficiency.
- Occasionally work prolonged or irregular hours with little to not advanced notice, to ensure/restore department and district options.
- Comply with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rules, and local board policy.
- Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents as required.
- Daily attendance at work and punctuality are essential functions of the job.
- Maintain confidentiality.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Working Conditions
Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including personal computer and peripherals.
Posture: Frequent walking, Prolonged sitting; occasional bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting.
Motion: Repetitive hand motions including frequent keyboarding and use of mouse. Occasional reaching.
Lifting: Occasional light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds).
Environment: Work inside, may work outside; regular exposure to noise.
Vision: Clarity of vision at approximately 20 inches or less (that is, working with small objects or reading small print), including use of computers.
Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress; work with frequent interruptions and prolonged or irregular hours.
