Salary is determined on directly related experience supported by a service record or experience affidavit.  Annualized pay may be pro-rated based on actual start date.

 

Position Summary


The SPED Student Support Provider ensures the safe and orderly transportation of students on assigned bus
routes and to and from designated locations. Assists the bus driver in maintaining a secure, respectful, and
calm environment by monitoring student behavior, enforcing bus safety rules, and addressing issues
promptly and appropriately.


Supports students as they board and exit the bus, with special attention to younger students and those
requiring additional assistance. Maintain accurate awareness of student attendance, seating arrangements,
and special needs. Communicate effectively with the bus driver, school staff, and transportation supervisors
regarding student conduct, safety concerns, or route-related issues.


Minimum Requirements


•  Satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check.


Preferred Qualifications


•  Three (3) years of work-related experience with children or in a school setting.
•  Ability to obtain and maintain current CPR and First Aid certification in accordance with district and
    state requirements.
•  Ability to communicate effectively in both English and Spanish.

Essential Functions/Key Responsibilities


•  Assist students on and off the bus according to their individual needs including lifting and carrying
    students with disabilities.

•  Supervise students as they board and exit the bus and cross the street following established safety
    procedures.
•  Escort students into the building and deliver to their assigned destination.
•  Instruct students on safe entering, exiting, and riding rules and regulations.
•  Learn and adapt to each student’s special medical, physical, communicative, and emotional needs.
•  Manage student behavior and report student discipline problems in a timely manner to appropriate
    administrator.
•  Communicate with teachers and parents regarding student behavior while on bus.
•  Complete and maintain accurate, updated, and timely records and reports including route sheet
    and daily non-notification forms.
•  Operate equipment according to established safety procedures. Make sure that seat belts,
    harnesses, or car seats are used correctly and help students use safety devises when needed.
•  Follow emergency procedures including evacuation of students as needed and assist driver to
    administer first aid, if necessary.
•  Follow established procedures and techniques to perform job duties including lifting and assisting
    students.
•  Become familiar with and follow procedures established by transportation and special education
    offices.
•  Assist drivers to keep buses clean and perform pre- and post-trip inspections.
•  Daily attendance at work and punctuality are essential functions of the job.
•  Keep informed of and comply with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of
    Education rule, and board policy.
•  Comply with all district routines and regulations.
•  Maintain confidentiality.
•  Perform other duties as assigned.


Working Conditions:


Tools/Equipment Used: Two-way radio, PTT phone; safety equipment including but not limited to flares,
reflective signs, and fire extinguisher. Specialized and adaptive equipment used by students.
Posture: Prolonged sitting; frequent standing, twisting, kneeling/squatting, bending, stooping, and
pushing/pulling.
Motion: Frequent walking, climbing stairs, grasping/squeezing, wrist and shoulder flexion/extension, and
reaching.
Lifting: Frequent heavy lifting (45 pounds or over) and positioning of students with physical disabilities,
controlling behavior through physical restraint, assisting non-ambulatory students, and lifting and moving
adaptive equipment.
Environment: Frequent exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures, work inside and outside (exposure
to sun, heat, cold, and inclement weather); exposure to noise and vehicle fumes; exposure to biological
hazards (bacteria, communicable diseases); work around vehicles and machinery with moving parts; may
work irregular or prolonged hours
Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions. Maintain emotional control under stress.


Supervisory Responsibilities


•  Supervise students as they board and exit the bus, as well as while crossing the street.
•  Maintain discipline and implement effective behavior management strategies for groups of
    students.
•  Report any disciplinary issues to the relevant administrator and communicate with teachers and
    parents about student behavior as necessary.
•  Maintain constant supervision of students and verify that they are received by the designated staff
    member upon drop-off.
