OVERVIEW: The job is responsible for: The Golf Starter at Boca West Country Club is responsible for welcoming members and guests, organizing tee times, and ensuring a smooth and efficient flow of play on the golf course. This role requires excellent customer service skills, a thorough knowledge of golf etiquette, and the ability to communicate effectively with players and staff. The Golf Starter plays a key role in enhancing the overall golf experience by managing pace of play and creating a welcoming, professional environment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Pace of Play & Course Flow Management

• Monitor the pace of play throughout the day, assisting players in maintaining a steady rhythm.
• Address slow play issues tactfully and promptly, providing solutions or guidance as needed.
• Communicate with starters, marshals, and staff regarding course conditions and player flow.

Player Assistance & Customer Service

• Greet members and guests warmly, providing a positive and professional presence on the course.
• Assist players with on-course needs, such as locating lost balls, providing water, or answering questions.
• Educate players on course policies, rules, and etiquette to promote a respectful environment.

Course & Safety Enforcement

• Enforce golf course rules, safety protocols, and etiquette standards.
• Promote safety by ensuring players are aware of course hazards and operating golf carts responsibly.
• Support emergency response procedures if needed and communicate issues to course management.

Course Maintenance & Conditions

• Report course hazards, damages, or maintenance needs to the appropriate staff.
• Support the preservation of course conditions by encouraging proper play and respect for the course.

Operational Support

• Assist with logistical needs during tournaments, outings, and special events.
• Help with setting up on-course stations, signage, and other operational tasks.
• Support the overall smooth operation of the golf course environment.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, and TRAINING:

• Previous experience in golf operations, hospitality, or outdoor customer service preferred.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Knowledge of golf rules, etiquette, and pace of play principles.
• Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
• Ability to work early mornings, weekends, and holidays.
• Valid driver’s license and familiarity with golf carts and basic course equipment.
• Friendly, approachable demeanor with excellent communication skills.
• Problem-solving skills and tactful handling of challenging situations.
• Organized and proactive with a customer-focused attitude.
• Enthusiastic about maintaining a positive golf environment.

• Ability to stand, walk, and patrol the course for extended periods.
• Capable of lifting and carrying light supplies or signage up to 50 pounds.

• Primarily outdoors on the golf course, exposed to sun, rain, wind, and other weather conditions.
