Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Night Janitorial Services Supervisor to oversee evening cleaning operations at a commercial property in New York City. The supervisor will lead and support the night cleaning staff, inspect completed work, coordinate assignments, maintain adequate supplies, and ensure that the facility meets the company’s quality, safety, and customer-service standards.
The successful candidate will be dependable, organized, hands-on, and capable of supervising employees in a fast-paced, service-oriented environment. Experience working in commercial office buildings and with 32BJ-represented employees is strongly preferred.
Responsibilities
- Supervise, schedule, and direct janitorial employees during the night shift.
- Conduct shift meetings and assign work based on staffing levels, building priorities, and special requests.
- Inspect offices, restrooms, common areas, lobbies, elevators, stairwells, and other assigned spaces to verify cleaning quality.
- Manage and submit payroll forms.
- Ensure that employees follow established cleaning schedules, procedures, and safety requirements.
- Provide hands-on training, coaching, and corrective instruction to cleaning personnel.
- Monitor employee attendance, punctuality, uniforms, conduct, and overall job performance.
- Arrange appropriate coverage for employee absences, vacations, and changes in building activity.
- Maintain accurate records, including attendance, inspection reports, supply usage, incident reports, and completed work orders.
- Proficiency in technology in submitting forms, reports and other administrative tasks.
- Ability to create and maintain professional relations with stakeholders from vendors and property owners/managers
- Communicate building conditions, staffing issues, customer requests, and operational concerns to management.
- Respond promptly and professionally to tenant, client, and building-management requests.
- Coordinate special projects such as carpet care, floor stripping and refinishing, high dusting, window cleaning, and detailed restroom cleaning.
- Monitor inventory of cleaning supplies, tools, chemicals, and equipment and submit replenishment or repair requests as needed.
- Ensure that chemicals are properly labeled, stored, diluted, and used according to manufacturer instructions and company procedures.
- Enforce safety rules and ensure employees use required personal protective equipment.
- Report accidents, injuries, property damage, security concerns, and hazardous conditions immediately.
- Ensure cleaning equipment is properly used, cleaned, stored, and maintained.
- Secure assigned areas and follow all building access, key-control, alarm, and security procedures.
- Perform cleaning duties or provide emergency coverage when operationally necessary.
- Carry out other duties assigned by the Account Manager or Operations Manager.
Experience
- Minimum of five years of commercial janitorial experience.
- At least five years of supervisory or lead-worker experience in a commercial cleaning environment.
- Experience supervising night-time cleaning operations in a New York City office building or similar facility strongly preferred.
- Familiarity with 32BJ collective bargaining requirements and union workforce practices preferred.
- Working knowledge of commercial cleaning methods, chemicals, equipment, and safety procedures.
- Experience with hard-floor care, carpet maintenance, restroom sanitation, and quality-control inspections.
- Ability to supervise, motivate, train, and evaluate a diverse workforce.
- Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to read and complete schedules, inspection forms, incident reports, product labels, and work orders.
- Basic computer or mobile-device skills for email, timekeeping, reporting, and work-order systems.
- Ability to communicate effectively in English; bilingual English/Spanish skills are preferred.
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Valid certificates or training in OSHA safety, bloodborne pathogens, chemical handling, or related subjects are a plus.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the shift.
Schedule Requirements
This position primarily works evening and overnight hours. The supervisor must be flexible and available for occasional weekends, holidays, overtime, emergencies, special projects, and staffing coverage as operational needs require.

Pay: $80,000.00 - $100,000.00 per year
