Summary: The Maintenance Technician I maintains and services the plant and mobile equipment in the scrap yard, performs preventative maintenance and routine repairs, conducts periodic safety and maintenance inspections to evaluate equipment for replacement and identifies wear and damage. The technician uses technical diagrams, blueprints, and schematics to install, troubleshoot, calibrate, and repair equipment, engines, and compressors. Duties And Responsibilities
- Maintains and services the plant and mobile equipment in the scrap yard.
- Performs preventative maintenance and routine repairs.
- Conducts periodic safety and maintenance inspections to evaluate equipment for replacement and identifies wear and damage.
- Uses technical diagrams, blueprints, and schematics to install, troubleshoot, calibrate, and repair equipment, engines, and compressors.
- Orders parts needed for replacement and coordinates with service providers to complete maintenance tasks.
- Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair complex mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic equipment; primarily loaders, shears, grapple, skid steers, forklifts, tractor/trailer, shredder, conveyor systems, hydraulic systems, PLC’s.
- Welds, grinding, weld set-up, and torching.
- Set up and break down machinery.
- Uses a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) or work order system to track and document activities.
- Follows established safety procedures and regulations for hazardous materials handling.
- High school diploma or GED.
- 1 years’ related experience and/or may have completed a trade apprenticeship or technical training.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods, generally 8–12 hours per shift.
- Performs frequent bending, stooping, kneeling, climbing, and reaching.
- Must be capable of lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling up to 50 lbs., with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Works in outdoor environments in a range of weather conditions, such as heat, cold, rain, and snow.
- Works in proximity to heavy machinery and high‑noise environments while wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Must be able to wear required PPE for extended periods.
