Position Summary:
The Shop Hand is an entry-level position responsible for supporting the daily operations in our workshop. This role involves hands-on assistance with the disassembly, cleaning, inspection, repair, and reassembly of well control equipment and downhole tools such as packers. The ideal candidate is mechanically inclined, safety-conscious, and eager to learn in a fast-paced oilfield environment. This position reports to the Shop Foreman or Lead Technician and plays a key role in maintaining equipment integrity to prevent downtime and ensure compliance with industry standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in the disassembly and reassembly of downhole tools (e.g., packers, plugs, and subs) and well control equipment (e.g., BOPs, rams, and valves) using hand tools, power tools, and specialized machinery.
- Perform routine cleaning, degreasing, and inspection of equipment components to identify wear, damage, or defects.
- Support preventive maintenance tasks, including lubrication, part replacement, and minor repairs on pumps, motors, and related mechanical systems.
- Organize and maintain shop inventory, including parts, tools, and materials; assist with ordering supplies as needed.
- Operate basic shop equipment such as forklifts, skid steers, or backhoes for material handling and equipment movement.
- Ensure compliance with safety protocols, including proper use of PPE, lockout/tagout procedures, and hazard identification.
- Help with facility upkeep, including cleaning work areas, disposing of waste, and maintaining a safe and organized shop environment.
- Collaborate with technicians and supervisors to troubleshoot issues and complete rebuild projects efficiently.
- Document work performed, including maintenance logs and inspection reports, to support quality assurance.
- Perform other duties as assigned, which may include field support or basic welding/fabrication tasks.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical training in mechanics or oilfield services is a plus.
- 1 years of experience in a mechanical, shop, or oilfield role preferred; entry-level candidates with strong mechanical aptitude will be considered.
- Basic knowledge of oil and gas equipment, including well control systems and downhole tools (e.g., packers).
- Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, and basic machinery; ability to read blueprints or schematics is advantageous.
- Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds, stand for extended periods, and work in various weather conditions or shop environments.
- Strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and a commitment to safety.
- Valid driver’s license
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including overtime or weekends as needed.
- Must pass pre-employment drug screening.
