Position Overview

The Superintendent will oversee daily operations, long-term turf health, and team performance to ensure the course consistently meets quality, playability, and aesthetic standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee all aspects of golf course maintenance and agronomic operations, ensuring exceptional turf quality and course presentation
- Develop and execute annual maintenance plans, budgets, and capital improvement initiatives
- Manage daily operations including irrigation, fertilization, chemical applications, mowing practices, and pest control
- Ensure proper mixing, calibration, and application of fertilizers and chemicals in compliance with all regulations
- Maintain full compliance with local, state, and federal environmental and safety regulations
- Monitor turf health and course conditions, proactively identifying and resolving issues
- Lead and develop the grounds team, including hiring, training, scheduling, and performance management
- Oversee maintenance of all equipment and coordinate with vendors and service providers
- Collaborate with hotel leadership to support guest experience, events, and golf operations
- Implement cost control measures while maintaining high standards of quality and efficiency
- Provide regular reporting on course conditions, operational performance, and budget adherence
- Directly supervise team members including:
- Assistant Superintendent
- Grounds Crew / Equipment Operators
- Irrigation Technician
- Maintenance Staff
- Foster a positive, team-oriented culture focused on accountability, safety, and continuous improvement
- 5 years of experience in golf course maintenance, including experience as a Superintendent or Assistant Superintendent
- Strong knowledge of turf management, agronomy, irrigation systems, and chemical applications
- Proven ability to manage budgets, labor, and operational costs
- Experience leading teams in a hands-on, fast-paced environment
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
- Ability to communicate effectively with leadership, team members, and external partners
- Degree or certification in Agronomy, Turf Management, Horticulture, or related field
- Experience in a hospitality or resort environment
- Knowledge of Mid-Atlantic climate and turf conditions
- Experience supporting event-driven or high-traffic courses
- Valid Driver’s License
- Pesticide Applicator License (or ability to obtain)
- Salary: $85,000 – $95,000 (commensurate with experience)
