The Role
This is an executive-level role with high upside potential to lead all accounting, finance, and asset management operations and define financial processes for our rapidly expanding portfolio. As we don't have a controller or CFO, you'll build and own the full spectrum of accounting functions - from daily transactions to executive reporting - while building scalable systems. This is a hands-on role where you'll build our financial foundation for our continued growth.
Key Responsibilities
Full-Cycle Accounting
- Work with property accountants and own complete month/quarter/year-end close process across all properties as well as Blue Dock corporate.
- Prepare and review all journal entries, reconciliations, and financial statements
- Manage full-cycle accounts payable and cash management
- Handle GAAP compliance, tax filings, and audit coordination
Financial Reporting & Analysis
- Consolidate P&L and balance sheets across portfolio for ownership
- Prepare annual budgets, forecasts, and reforecasts with property teams
- Create executive dashboards and KPI tracking
- Monitor actual vs. budget performance and provide variance analysis
Process Development & Systems
- Define and document all accounting processes and procedures
- Build scalable systems to support portfolio growth
- Establish internal controls and improve operational efficiency
- Create templates and workflows for consistent reporting
Cross-Team Collaboration
- Partner with property management on rent rolls and expense tracking
- Coordinate with leasing on lease accounting and revenue recognition
- Work with construction team on project costs and draw management
- Support due diligence for acquisitions and financing
Qualifications
- Hard Working
- Bachelor's in Accounting/Finance; CPA ideal
- Systems and tech orientation
- Comfortable in an entrepreneurial environment
- Intellectually curious
- 5 years progressive accounting experience
- Ready for controller responsibilities
- Real estate finance & accounting expertise is ideal - asset management, lease accounting, CAM reconciliations
- Advanced Excel skills
- GAAP knowledge and experience with audits and compliance
Process & Systems Experience:
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to create documentation, procedures, and training materials
