We’re partnering with a leading industrial automation company that is growing their engineering team and seeking a Controls Project Engineer with strong experience in distributed control systems and electrical design.
This role is ideal for an engineer who enjoys being hands-on with automation design, field equipment integration, and working on complex industrial systems that include distributed VFDs, remote I/O, and networked field devices.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop distributed control system architectures, including field I/O, networked VFDs, and control panels.
- Create and review electrical design drawings, schematics, and panel layouts.
- Configure and program PLCs, HMIs, and network communications (Ethernet/IP, Modbus, Profibus, etc.).
- Collaborate with project managers, design teams, and clients to ensure system performance and reliability.
- Support system commissioning, troubleshooting, and field startup activities.
- Ensure designs comply with electrical and safety standards (NEC, UL, NFPA 70E, etc.).
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- 3 years of experience in controls system design, electrical design, or automation engineering.
- Hands-on experience with distributed control systems (DCS) or PLC-based architectures.
- Proficiency with Rockwell/Allen-Bradley, Siemens, ABB, Emerson, or Honeywell platforms.
- Experience designing and implementing remote I/O, distributed VFDs, and field instrumentation.
- Strong understanding of industrial networking and fieldbus communication systems.
Preferred Experience
- Familiarity with tools such as Studio 5000, RSLogix, FactoryTalk, or TIA Portal.
- Previous work in industrial automation, process control, or manufacturing environments.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and interface directly with customers.
