Sign Language Interpreter in Waukegan, IL

Degree in American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreting, certified ASL Interpreter credentials, and 1 year of experience as an ASL Interpreter in educational settings. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered.

Work directly with students as a Sign Language Interpreter in an engaging and supportive educational setting near Waukegan, IL. This contract opportunity is ideal for interpreting professionals dedicated to facilitating communication and supporting student success in a school environment. Full-time positions are available for the 2026–2027 academic year, starting August 10th, 2026, and running tentatively through May 20th, 2027 (potentially extending to May 27th, 2027). Two openings are available; assignments will be discussed in detail during the interview process.

Key Qualifications:

• Valid EIPA Score of 3.5 or higher
• Previous experience providing sign language interpretation, ideally in educational settings
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work collaboratively with students, staff, and special education teams
• Proficiency interpreting for a range of communication needs and grade levels
• Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and professionalism
• Available onsite for 35 hours per week (virtual services not utilized)

Responsibilities:

• Deliver in-person sign language interpreting services for students and staff
• Adapt interpreting techniques to meet individual student needs across varying settings and age groups
• Support student inclusion and participation during classroom instruction, school activities, and meetings
• Collaborate with educators and support personnel to ensure students' educational access
• Maintain accurate daily records and contribute to documentation as required
