About the Position
Blazer Jobs is hiring an Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS) for a school district in Seattle, WA. The OMS will provide specialized instruction to students who are blind or visually impaired, helping them develop safe and independent travel skills in both school and community environments. This role is ideal for professionals passionate about accessibility, student independence, and collaborative education.
Responsibilities
Conduct assessments to identify students orientation and mobility needs
Create and implement individualized instruction plans aligned with IEP goals
Teach safe travel techniques, including cane skills, street crossings, and public transportation navigation
Collaborate with teachers, vision specialists, families, and administrators to support student success
Document interventions, progress, and ensure compliance with district and state requirements
Provide consultation and training for staff and families to reinforce mobility strategies
Qualifications
Bachelors or Masters degree in Orientation and Mobility or related field
ACVREP Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS) required
Active Washington state licensure if applicable
Prior experience in school-based or pediatric settings preferred
Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills
Compensation & Benefits
Local Candidates (Hourly Pay):47-53 per hour
Travel Candidates (Weekly Take-Home Pay): 1718-1868, with housing and meal stipends included
