The Blair Regional YMCA is seeking a Supervisor of the Before & After School Program.

The School-Age Group Supervisor is responsible for providing leadership, guidance, effective communication and maintaining the overall well-being and safety of Y Before & After School participants and support staff. They should possess high energy, enthusiasm, genuinely enjoy working with children, and be team oriented. The School-Age Group Supervisor is responsible for the planning, implementation, and facilitation of the structured daily schedule. The School-Age Group Supervisor must be positive, with a patient and respectful demeanor towards children, families, and coworkers. All staff are expected to be interactive and engaging with the children.

The program runs August through June following the Hollidaysburg Area School District. This is a part-time position, approximately 25 hours per week. Candidate would work directly with children Monday-Friday, before school 6:30-8:30AM and after school 3:30-5:30PM. There are up to 4 additional flexible hours in planning time when not directly working with children.

If interested, the School-Age Group Supervisor may have the opportunity to work in the summer camp program during the summer months.

Responsible for the following:

  • Oversee the care, supervision, and safety of up to 24 children ages 5 to 12, ensuring a safe, structured, and engaging environment.
  • Provide leadership and supervision to other adults in the classroom, fostering positive and collaborative team.
  • Ensure the well-being of all children at all times through active supervision and adherence to safety policies.
  • Establish strong relationships with families by engaging in positive interactions during drop-off and pick-up, and maintaining open communication regarding children’s schedules and needs.
  • Maintain ongoing communication with families, including scheduled conferences, regular updates, and discussions regarding any concerns.
  • Develop and implement weekly lesson plans that align with children’s developmental needs and interests, promoting learning and engagement.
  • Organize and adjust the classroom setup to accommodate the needs of children and planned activities.
  • Demonstrate best teaching practices by modeling positive social-emotional behaviors, including patience, empathy, and effective conflict resolution.
  • Foster a respectful and inclusive environment through clear communication, active listening, and constructive guidance, helping children develop self-regulation, problem-solving skills, and positive peer interactions.
  • Maintain complete and up-to-date records in compliance with state licensing requirements. (attendance, children’s emergency contact forms, incidents reports, medication logs, etc.)
  • Maintain open and ongoing communication with families, including scheduled conferences, regular updates, and discussions regarding any concerns.
  • Understand and ensure compliance with state regulations and licensing requirements, maintaining a high-quality program.
  • Support the unique needs of each child, including behavioral, social-emotional, or different abilities.
  • Collaborate with the program director and families to develop strategies, implement appropriate accommodations, and create a supportive environment that fosters each child's success.

  • Ability to lead other adults in the classroom in a supportive, collaborative way and work closely with other staff and program director.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Understanding of school-age children growth and development and the ability to create and implement appropriate lesson plans
  • Ability to maintain an organized and welcoming classroom
  • Ability to learn, retain, and follow state licensing requirements and YMCA policies
  • Ability to recognize or identify the unique needs of each child
  • Ability to assess situations and make informed decisions in a fast-paced environment
  • Capacity to adapt to changing situations, children's needs, and classroom dynamics

EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in early childhood education, child development, special education, elementary education, or human service field
  • -OR- an associate degree (in the fields listed above) PLUS two years experience working with children
  • Prior experience working with school-age children or in a licensed childcare center preferred.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Act 33/35 clearances (child abuse and state police criminal), FBI clearance
  • Good health as confirmed by a current health assessment signed by physician
  • Proof of being free of tuberculosis
  • Two written references
  • Available to work both AM/PM shifts, school holidays, and in-service days
  • New Staff ONLY: Pre-Service Training, New Staff Orientation, any additional training hours in the areas set forth by STARS Program and the Department of Human Services.

  • Ability to be actively engaged with children: including but not limited to: standing for long periods and participating in physical activities both indoors and outdoors.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $15.00 - $17.00 per hour
