Description
Under general direction, performs a variety of technical duties by providing technical support including coordination, maintenance, upgrades and overall support for computer systems; administers, evaluates and modifies systems to assure proper security and operation; plans, coordinates, and implements system software program release changes for enterprise servers; resolves technology problems and provides for system enhancements; provides technical support and assistance to clients.
Examples of Duties
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following but are not limited to.
- Manages and maintains Red Hat, Windows, and other servers in the environment. Systems include physical servers and VMs in the college's virtual and cloud environment
- Ensures the security and backup of data as per the college retention policy and assists in the administration of backup appliances and services, including firewall and intrusion protection.
- Researches and evaluates College Information Systems (CIS) hardware and software requirements; configures, installs, and maintains CIS software to support and ensure day-to-day operations of Datatel Colleague and related systems.
- Plans and coordinates the installation of new releases and system software updates for the Colleges' CIS system, servers in the virtual environment, and AWS environment. Analyzes the impacts of software updates and research solutions to problems.
- Confers with program product vendors regarding new product releases and problem resolutions. Plans and coordinates the installation of new releases and system software updates for various college systems and servers. Analyzes the impacts of software updates and research solutions to problems.
- Evaluates, recommends, implements, and ensures systems security at the server level and, in conjunction with the network security administrator, network and desktop administrators, across the entire college IT infrastructure.
- Provide support and back up to the network systems administrator.
- Prepares client, operations, and systems documentation according to pre-established standards.
- Assist in evaluating equipment and software capability in the college IT infrastructure; researches and resolves problems; makes technical recommendations.
- Schedule may shift to accommodate non-business hours for system updates and patches as required. This also could include emergency availability to restore systems in the event of unplanned outages.
- Monitoring and troubleshooting wired and wireless network switching and routing hardware and devices
- Oversees AD and related directory services
- Provide SaaS support for email messaging, video conferencing, and collaboration systems
- Collaborate on the design of on-premises data center services and VPC environment
- Provides support for the Document Imaging server and service (Etrieve)
- Support the college IP Phone system
- Assist instructors, students, administration, and staff with technical questions and/or problems.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge in areas related to cybersecurity and networking best practices
Research, oversee, and plan technology projects.
Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
SECONDARY DUTIES include the following.
- Secondary responsibility for the management of college service relationships related to Colleague
- Pursue professional development activities to enhance job skills and knowledge, as agreed upon by employee and supervisor
- Comply with the College's policies and procedures
- Security patching for select enterprise services and servers as needed
- Secondary responsibility for general data center duties, such as server provisioning
- Assist other IT staff in client troubleshooting and the installation of client software and hardware
- Assists in the creation and maintenance of a disaster recovery plan
- Assist in maintenance of data closets across the campus
- Other duties may be assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES - None.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE - Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school in Information Systems; and one to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS - Ability to read and interpret documents such as operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively to employees requiring help or instruction of computer functions. Ability to work independently.
