Description


The Part-Time Deli Worker supports daily deli operations by preparing fresh food items, providing excellent customer service, maintaining a clean and safe work environment, and performing general cash-handling procedures. This position ensures that food safety standards are consistently met while contributing to an efficient and customer-focused deli operation. The role requires strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced setting.

Examples of Duties


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

  • Greet customers warmly and assist them with deli orders in a friendly and professional manner.
  • Provide product information, make recommendations, and answer questions regarding ingredients, preparation methods, and menu options.
  • Prepare deli salads, sandwiches, sides, and hot food items following established recipes and procedures.
  • Weigh, package, label, and price deli products accurately.
  • Ensure all food safety, sanitation, and hygiene standards are strictly followed.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area, including counters, equipment, and display cases.
  • Restock deli cases, shelves, and supplies as needed; rotate products to ensure freshness and minimize waste.
  • Operate deli equipment safely and responsibly.
  • Assist with inventory counts and receiving deliveries.
  • Communicate effectively with team members, students, and faculty/staff.
  • Follow established policies, guidelines, and safety procedures.
  • Provide general cash-handling and point-of-sale support as required.
  • Maintain a positive and professional relationship with customers, coworkers, and campus staff.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to carry out each essential duty satisfactorily. Strong communication, customer-service skills, and the ability to perform tasks efficiently in a fast-paced environment are essential. The requirements listed below represent the knowledge, skills, and abilities required.   • Previous deli, food service, or customer service experience preferred but not required.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Basic math skills for weighing, pricing, and handling transactions.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 25 lbs.
  • Reliable, punctual, and willing to learn.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

ServSafe Certification or the ability to obtain certification within one month of the hire date.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret basic safety rules, operating instructions, and recipe or procedure guidelines. Ability to communicate effectively with customers, students, faculty, staff, and team members.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

ServSafe Certification (required within one month of hire).
