What are the responsibilities and job description for the Medical Strategy Director position at BioTalent?
Medical Strategy Director
Creative Pharma Agency · Full-time · Hybrid
We're a boutique agency with a big belief: that rigorous science and fearless creativity aren't opposites. We're looking for a Medical Strategy Director who can hold both at once.
About the role
As our Medical Strategy Director, you'll sit at the intersection of scientific credibility and creative ambition. You'll lead the medical and strategic direction on a portfolio of pharmaceutical and biotech accounts, partnering closely with account and creative leadership to ensure everything we make is both scientifically sound and genuinely compelling. You'll be a trusted voice in the room for clients, a mentor to junior medical writers and strategists, and a key contributor to new business efforts. In a smaller agency, that means real ownership and real visibility.
What you'll do
- Own the medical and scientific strategy across a portfolio of HCP and patient-facing programs, spanning promotional, medical affairs, and publications channels
- Lead scientific platform development, narrative architecture, and message hierarchy for product launches, disease awareness initiatives, and advisory boards
- Translate complex clinical and regulatory data into clear, differentiated, creative-ready strategic frameworks
- Serve as the senior scientific lead in client meetings, building trust as a credible partner and consultative advisor
- Collaborate with creative, editorial, and account teams to ensure scientific integrity across all deliverables — without killing the idea
- Review and approve medical content across formats: presentations, digital, video, print, and congress materials
- Contribute to new business pitches, including scientific positioning, key message development, and platform ideation
- Mentor and develop junior scientific staff, helping build the agency's internal medical capabilities
- Stay current on clinical data, competitive landscapes, and regulatory developments across relevant therapeutic areas
Who you are
- Advanced degree in a life sciences field (PharmD, PhD, MD, or equivalent); MedComms agency background strongly preferred
- Launch Experience Required
- 8 years of experience in healthcare communications, medical education, or a related agency environment
- Deep familiarity with the pharma/biotech communications landscape — promotional, publications, and/or medical affairs
- Equally comfortable in a scientific literature deep-dive and a client strategy session
- A genuine collaborator who brings creative partners along rather than just auditing their work
- Strong communicator and presenter — confident, clear, never condescending
- Able to manage multiple accounts and priorities simultaneously in a lean, fast-moving environment
- Drawn to the energy of a smaller shop: less bureaucracy, more ownership, and a team that actually likes each other
Therapeutic areas
Experience across oncology, rare disease, immunology, neuroscience, or cardiovascular preferred. Breadth across multiple TAs is a plus — we work across a range and value scientific range to match.
Salary : $140,000 - $170,000
