POSITION DESCRIPTION
Position: Director of Athletics, Physical Education, Health and Wellness
Qualifications:
- Valid NYSED Certification in Physical Education and Administrative Certification (SAS, SDA, SBL, SDL or SDA) are both required for this position.

To continue to develop and maintain a quality program in areas of Athletics, Physical Education, Health and Wellness. Provide the opportunity for a safe, supportive, and engaging athletic experience for all students.

Superintendent or their designee
Performance Responsibilities:
- Develops and supervises an effective and comprehensive instructional program of Physical Education for all students in the district.
- Develops and supervises an effective and comprehensive instructional program of Health Education for all students in the district.
- Organizes and administers the over-all program of extra-curricular athletics, both intermural and interscholastic of the district.
- Keeps informed about current trends and practices in physical education and interscholastic sports.
- Participates actively in the development of a management team.
- Conducts periodic review and evaluation of Physical Education program making changes and recommendations of changes as appropriate.
- Administers the insurance program covering school athletics.
- Conducts periodic review and evaluation of Health Education program making changes and recommendations of changes as appropriate.
- Conducts periodic review and evaluation District Wellness program making changes and recommendations of changes as appropriate.
- Prepares and administers the departmental budget for Athletics, Physical Education, Health and Wellness.
- Assumes responsibilities for acquisition, tracking and maintaining equipment and supplies for Athletics, Physical Education, Health and Nurses.
- Provides support to classroom instruction in the areas of Physical Education and Health, PK - grade 12.
- Works with the Personnel Office and principals in determining placement of Physical Education and Health teachers.
- Works with the Personnel Office on hiring, assigning and supervising coaching staff and faculty managers including performance management and annual performance evaluations and manages staff disciplinary issues.
- Works with building principals to ensure implementation of established Physical Education and Health instructional programs and curriculum.
- Analyzes student achievement and recommends changes and/or adjustments in the Curriculum.
- Coordinates curriculum development and revisions.
- Conducts research regarding instructional practices of health and physical
- education.
- Plans and attends in-service for Health Physical Education teachers, and Nurses; assesses needs and handles all program logistics.
- Assists in orienting new Health and Physical Education teachers and Nurses.
- Establishes and adheres to a regular schedule of inspection of all physical Education and health facilities and installations to maintain and improve their safety.
- Serves as the District Wellness Coordinator and ensures implementation and effectiveness of District Wellness Policy.
- Serves as the District Dignity for All Coordinator, who is responsible for the identification, implementation and evaluation of the district's anti-bullying reporting and programming.
- Maintain a high level of excellence across all programs.
- Collaborate with school leadership, community groups, and stakeholders.
- Communicate effectively with staff, parents, and students.
- Other duties and assigned by the Superintendent of Schools.
