0. Support payroll operations for all offices and entities, ensuring integrity of payroll systems and payroll processes, and the timely, accurate delivery of pay to firm personnel. Advise Senior Payroll Manager and Associate Director, Payroll of issues.
1. Assist in conducting Payroll Manager’s audits for the semi-monthly, bi-weekly, and off-cycle payrolls. Identify and resolve any issues or discrepancies. Ensure proper documentation, compliance, accuracy, and completeness.
2. Assist with all payroll tax activities, including employee tax setups, reconciliation, tax filings, and the preparation and distribution of year-end reports and documentation.
3. Review complex payroll taxation arrangements for domestic and international remote work arrangements, business travelers, expats, secondments and inpats and ensure compliance with applicable federal, state and country regulations, including reporting and withholding for the applicable jurisdictions.
4. Assist with review and approval of payroll journals. Ensuring proper documentation, accuracy, and completeness.
- Review and reconcile payroll information to the general ledger. Resolve outstanding items in all payroll account reconciliations.
6. Monitor and manage the Paycycle mailbox. Respond to payroll-related inquiries and escalate issues as needed.
- Demonstrate in depth knowledge of data, systems integration and process workflows regarding information coming into or out of the Payroll.
- Demonstrate in depth knowledge of and ensure compliance with federal, state, reciprocal, and local taxation including non-cash benefits, retirement plans, section 125 benefit plans, percentages, limits and when each is applicable.
- Demonstrate in depth knowledge of taxation methods and the appropriate use of each including for employees whose work/home states are different (i.e., reciprocal states, remote work employees, etc.).
- Demonstrate in depth understanding of domestic and international office policies for staff and attorney personnel.
- Working knowledge of independent contractor, visa, expatriate administration, tax treaty, and Totalization Agreements.
Communication:
- Maintain confidentiality of all information communicated to Payroll.
- Effectively communicate answers to employee and firm management questions about earnings and tax withholdings, deductions and other compensation related issues, which may require in-depth analysis and research.
- Identify issues and respond to questions relating to any phase of the payroll process.
- Provide thorough documentation for reference and audit trails
- Provide support in all areas of domestic and international policies, procedures, and processes.
- Ensure all documentation is thorough, accurate, and appropriate.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
1. Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or related field and 8 years of global payroll experience. Equivalent work experience may be substituted for degree.
2. In depth knowledge of payroll and related US federal, state, and local regulations, including wage and hour, remote worker and expatriate tax reporting and withholding requirements.
3. Working knowledge in the preparation and filing of payroll tax and other requisite forms.
4. Experience in international payroll administration. (Europe – Germany, UK; Asia – Japan, Hong Kong, PRC, and Singapore preferred)
5. Working knowledge of integrated, cross-functional business systems. Experience with Ascentis Payroll, WorkForce Software, and Workday HCM preferred.
6. APA Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) or other relevant professional certification preferred.
7. Knowledge of GDPR, California, and relevant data privacy requirements.
