Position Summary
The Safety Coordinator supports project leadership and field teams in maintaining a safe work environment by promoting safety compliance, conducting field evaluations, assisting with training initiatives, and supporting incident management activities. This role works closely with Foremen, General Foremen, Superintendents, and project personnel to ensure adherence to company safety programs, regulatory requirements, and project-specific safety standards.
Required Qualifications
- Understanding of electrical industry consensus standards, including NFPA, NESC, ASTM, and ANSI.
- Ability to work independently with strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated ability to influence safe work behaviors and promote a positive safety culture.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Word, and Excel.
- Experience working with a union workforce is preferred.
- Bilingual candidates are preferred.
Education
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Health and Safety (EHS), Construction Management, Business, Engineering, or a related field preferred.
Experience
- One (1) to three (3) years of construction safety experience required.
- Electrical safety experience preferred.
Certifications
- OSHA 30 Construction certification required.
- CPR/First Aid certification required (Trainer certification preferred).
- Additional safety certifications are desired.
Key Responsibilities
Safety Program Support
- Support Crew Foremen and General Foremen in the development of Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs).
- Evaluate the effectiveness of safety programs through daily field walks, regulatory compliance reviews, and audit activities.
- Meet regularly with field personnel and assist in developing project-specific corrective action plans to address safety concerns.
- Provide constructive feedback to project leadership regarding safety improvement opportunities and employee recognition.
Coaching, Training & Employee Engagement
- Coach and mentor employees exhibiting unsafe behaviors.
- Recognize and reinforce safe work practices and behaviors.
- Assist with delivery of site-specific safety orientations for new employees.
- Assist and co-facilitate employee safety training and testing, including:
- Hazard Communication (HazCom)
- Fall Protection
- Lockout/Tagout (LOTO)
- Other required safety programs
Incident Management
- Support project leadership with incident investigations.
- Facilitate injury and illness case management activities.
Equipment & Compliance Monitoring
- Perform periodic evaluations of power tools and equipment, including:
- Scissor lifts
- Forklifts
- Fall protection equipment
- Laser levelers
- Verify equipment is maintained in safe working condition.
- Monitor and evaluate CEI/Subcontractor compliance with project safety requirements, applicable regulations, and company policies.
Safety Meetings & Field Audits
- Support project leadership in the development and execution of weekly toolbox safety meetings.
- Attend assigned daily safety meetings and:
- Verify meetings are conducted daily.
- Audit continuity and relevance of discussion topics.
- Evaluate crew participation and engagement.
- Assess whether Foremen provide opportunities for employee involvement.
- Provide feedback to project leadership on meeting effectiveness.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of the Flex & Stretch Program.
- Ensure Foremen, General Foremen, and Superintendents are reviewing the SPTP and providing appropriate coaching as needed.
