Teacher of Visually Impaired - Des Plaines, IL

Key qualifications and requirements:

• Active Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) endorsement
• Demonstrated experience teaching or supporting visually impaired students, preferably in school settings
• Strong communication and collaboration skills with staff, students, and families
• Ability to work effectively across different elementary and middle school environments
• Reliable transportation for travel between assigned locations

Position responsibilities:

• Provide direct specialized instruction and consultation for students who are blind or visually impaired according to their individualized education programs (IEPs)
• Adapt curriculum and materials to ensure accessibility
• Conduct assessments and progress monitoring related to visual impairment
• Collaborate with general educators, special education teams, and families
• Implement best practices in technology, orientation, and mobility for students with visual impairments
• Maintain documentation and complete reports in accordance with district and state guidelines

This role is structured as an itinerant, part-time, onsite opportunity, running from August 11, 2026, through May 24, 2027. You’ll manage a varied caseload, making a difference across a range of age groups and learning settings.
