Job Summary
- Lead the front-end team as the POS and cash-handling expert, owning training, scheduling, safe balancing, deposits, change orders, and delivering fast, accurate, and friendly checkouts every shift.
- Ensure lines never exceed 2 customers, every drawer balances to the penny, and every cashier is confident, compliant, and customer-obsessed.
- Full-time rotating leadership role with POS overrides, safe combination, and bank access.
- Praise worthy customer service is our goal in every customer interaction.
Key Responsibilities
- POS Mastery & Overrides
- Expert on POS: voids, no-sales, price overrides, coupon stacking, tax-exempt, manual SKU entry, gift card issues, rain checks.
- Troubleshoot freezes, scanner failures, printer jams; reboot terminals and re-sync drawers in <2 minutes.
- Authorize manager-level discounts, competitor price matches, and post-voids up to store limit.
- Training Cashier Staff
- Onboard new cashiers: POS basics, cash handling, Ace Rewards enrollment, ID checks, key cutting, paint mixing, and recovery scripts.
- Run daily 15-minute huddles on ad items, upsell goals, scan speed, and “smile name” greetings.
- Shadow-coach in real time; certify cashiers on propane, rental check-in/out, and override procedures.
- Writing Effective Cashier Schedules
- Create weekly schedules: cover breaks, lunches, garden carry-outs, and peak traffic (lunch, 4–7 PM, Saturdays).
- Maintain correct cashier-to-lane ratio during ads; adjust same-day for call-outs and rushes.
- Approve time-off, track attendance, post schedules in advance.
- Safe Balancing, Deposits & Change Orders
- Perform drawer pulls, loaner tills, and end-of-shift counts; reconcile over/short within a few dollars.
- Balance and verify main safe; prepare bank deposits (cash, checks, rolled coin).
- Create and pick up change orders from bank; maintain correct working fund by denomination.
- Complete daily reports, cash summary logs, and deposit scans before leaving.
- Lane Management & Customer Recovery
- Open/close lanes dynamically; jump registers when lines hit 2 customers.
- Resolve complaints on the spot using LAST (Listen-Apologize-Solve-Thank); issue gift cards or Ace coupons to save the sale.
- Monitor scan rate, Rewards attachments, and impulse add-ons; recognize top performers weekly.
- Compliance & Standards
- Enforce no-phone policy, dress code, 10-foot/10-second rule, and age-restricted item checks.
- Conduct cash-handling audits.
- Verify all registers balanced, bags stocked, impulse displays full, deposit put away.
- All other duties as assigned by store management
Required Qualifications and Skills
- Education
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Experience
- 1 years as a cashier plus 6–12 months keyholder or shift-lead experience; cash office/deposit experience required.
- Skills & Abilities
- POS mastery—can teach a new cashier to ring a 50-item order flawlessly in <20 minutes.
- Training & coaching—turns nervous new hires into confident closers.
