Big Sandy Area Community Action Program is seeking a dedicated and passionate
Career Development Specialist to to guide regional high school students through their academic and career paths.
Position Summary: The Career Development Specialist is trained to develop comprehensive plans that are tailored to each individual. We help people to launch new careers and/or advance through training services. You will work alongside a talented, vibrant group of individuals who share your passion for helping to improve the lives of others while making our region a better place to live and work. The successful candidate will be working primarily in Floyd County high schools.
Job duties and details:
- Guide students through development of an individualized detailed career plan, including action steps, using a variety of career planning tools.
- Proctor use of virtual reality equipment for career exploration.
- Provide all WIOA program activities in compliance with requirements of contractual agreements, laws, and regulations.
- Deliver elements of case management including assessment, eligibility determination and documentation, career plan development and management, and long-term follow up.
- Collaborate with Business Service Consultants and other staff to match students with coordinating internships and pre-apprenticeships as part of the career plan.
- Maintain each customer’s folder and electronic records in compliance with WIOA and EKCEP standards and enroll eligible clients accurately with all required documentation in a timely manner.
- Facilitate assessments to identify skills, interests, and Identify customer and client assets, barriers, career goals, supportive service needs and manage the provision of services.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Social Work, Education or related field is required.
- Background in academic advising or education is preferred.
- Knowledge of social media platforms, technology, and the ability to adapt to evolving platforms.
- Excellent public speaking skills with the ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences.
- Valid driver’s license and travel throughout service area are required.
- Hire subject to agency policy on background check and drug screening.
