We are currently hiring an Assistant Controller to join our team in-person at our Corporate office in Farmington Hills, MI.
The Assistant Controller will assist in the preparation of financial statements in compliance with official guidelines and requirements. This position ensures there are no errors on properties’ balance sheets, or on the statements of profit and loss, cash flows or retained earnings.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Support most aspects of accounting management
- Assist in the formulation of internal controls and policies to comply with legislation and established best practices
- Assist in the preparation of financial statements in compliance with official guidelines and requirements
- Manage journal entries, invoices etc. and reconcile accounts for the monthly or annual closing
- Responsible for the hiring of senior team members, and providing continuous learning and development of their team
- Assist in the preparation of budgets or forecasts
- Researching accounting issues for compliance with generally accepted accounting principles
- Supervising accounts receivable, accounts payable and general accounting departments
- Coordinating or assisting with the budget process
- Working in a high-pressure environment, interacting with difficult customers/vendors, handling urgent matters, resolving conflicts, having effective interpersonal skills.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION:
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in accounting role
- Bachelor’s Degree in accounting required
- Property Management experience a plus
- Minimum 3 years’ in supervisory role

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The position is required to regularly sit for long periods of time, walk, climb stairs, stand, and communicate with residents, staff, family members and the public.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- This position typically operates indoors in an air-conditioned office, with a mixture of natural, incandescent and fluorescent light.
- You may be exposed to varying weather conditions such as heat, cold, rain, and snow is common. May occasionally be exposed to extreme conditions, including high heat, humidity, freezing temperatures, and heavy rain while performing outdoor tasks.
- You will also periodically be confined to a vehicle.
