Beyond Rhetoric is a youth-empowerment nonprofit serving youth under the supervision of Maryland’s Department of Juvenile Services. We use mentorship, education, and community engagement to foster social-emotional growth and long-term success for youth in detention and during re-entry. What You’ll Do
The Program Coordinator/Volunteer Coordinator plays a key role in expanding our impact and ensuring consistent, high-quality programming. You will:
- Recruit, screen, onboard, train, and retain a committed volunteer corps.
- Build and strengthen community partnerships and develop engaging program offerings for youth in detention.
- Systematize data collection and analysis to track youth and volunteer outcomes.
- Maintain communications, records, and recognition systems for both youth and volunteers.
- Work flexible hours (after-school and weekends) to deliver and oversee programming.

Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree preferred; minimum: college senior (reduced course load) or equivalent experience.
- Prior experience as a program or volunteer coordinator, or working with youth in detention, re-entry, or community programs.
- Excellent communication, organization, and interpersonal skills.
- Comfortable with data tracking, record-keeping, and evaluation systems.
- Must have flexible availability after-school and on weekends to meet program needs.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience building and managing community partnerships.
- Familiarity with volunteer management systems and youth development frameworks.
- Personal connection or compelling motivation to work with detained or system-involved youth.
- Experience training or supervising volunteers.

- Detained youth are typically unavailable during the traditional work-day. Programs serving youth typically occur after work hours. We'd approximate 25-50% of your time will be after traditional work hours and on the weekends. Other duties, like building partnerships, following up with volunteers, etc., occur during the traditional work day. Are you willing to work some evening hours and weekend hours?
