Position Overview:
The Personal Care Aide is a member of the Courtyards team who assists in meeting the personal care, social, and environmental needs of the Courtyard residents.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Appropriately assist clients with personal care activities in accordance with the personal services care plan including: Baths (tub, shower, bed bath), mouth-care, denture-care, skin-care, foot-care, ambulation, bathroom privileges (bedpan, commode, toilet), transferring, dressing & undressing activities, grooming activities, and positioning.
- Appropriately assist with household tasks directly essential to the client's health and in accordance with the plan of care, including: planning and preparing nutritional meals, assisting in feeding client if appropriate, light housekeeping of client's immediate environment, change linen, make bed, laundry of client's clothing & bedding.
- Count, dispense, and assist residents with medications; complete necessary documentation. Immediately report any changes in resident’s condition, incidents, or accidents, to the Charge person.
- Accurately measure and record oral, rectal, auxiliary temperatures, pulse, respiration and blood pressure when ordered.
- Monitors residents, recognizing and reporting adverse symptoms and reactions and reports unusual changes in status to the supervisor.
Basic Duties & Responsibilities:
- Assist with medications, may not administer, may remind client, read label for client, bring medications to client, position client. Client must be self-directing.
- Assist with feeding as necessary.
- Light housekeeping in client’s immediate environment.
- All others as assigned by supervisor.
Education Required:
- Personal Care aides shall have completed an approved PCA training program.
- High School Diploma or GED preferred.
- Ability to read, speak and write English is required.
Experience Required:
- Prior experience working with the dementia resident preferred, and a genuine interest in the geriatric resident is required
Additional Qualifications:
- Must be able to communicate with co-workers, residents, and the families of the residents.
- Dependable, prompt, tactful, patient, a desire to work with geriatric residents.
- Client-focused at all times, while acting as a pleasant professional is essential.
