Benefits Specialist

Position Overview

The Benefit Specialist is a full-time salaried position located onsite at the Business Office in State College, PA, with a salary range of $55,000 to $65,000. This role is responsible for managing and administering employee benefits and retirement programs. Additionally, the Benefit Specialist provides daily support to the Human Resources Office, ensuring the effective operation of HR functions. The position requires meticulous attention to detail in benefits enrollment, compliance, and employee support, all of which are critical for smooth and efficient benefits administration.

Benefits Administration Responsibilities

The Benefit Specialist oversees a comprehensive range of employee benefits, including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, disability, and 401(k) plans. Key responsibilities include ensuring accurate data entry and eligibility verification for all benefit programs. The role involves processing new-hire orientations, addressing benefits inquiries, and managing claims. The Benefit Specialist is also responsible for administering paperwork related to leave of absence and disability, while maintaining strict compliance with employment laws and company policies.

Required Skills and Work Environment

Success in this position requires strong written and verbal communication skills, as well as thorough knowledge of employee benefits and relevant legislation. The Benefit Specialist must demonstrate excellent organizational and time management abilities, and proficiency with Microsoft Office or comparable software is essential. The work is primarily performed in an office environment, involving frequent periods of sitting or standing, regular use of office equipment, and ongoing interaction with both employees and management.

Qualifications and Physical Demands

Candidates for this position should possess an associate degree in Human Resources or a related field or have equivalent professional experience. At least two years of experience in Benefits administration and HR is required. Experience working with self-insured benefits is not required, but it is highly recommended. The role demands high attention to detail, strict confidentiality, thorough knowledge of applicable legislation, strong computer skills, and a valid driver’s license. Physical requirements include the ability to sit or stand for extended periods, lift up to 25 pounds, and perform various physical movements as necessary.
