Position Summary
The Medical Services Assistant provides direct support to the Medical Services Branch by performing administrative and clinical duties related to WMATA’s Drug and Alcohol Testing and Medical Compliance Programs. This position is responsible for maintaining confidentiality, accuracy, and compliance with all applicable federal and organizational regulations while supporting onsite testing and medical evaluation processes.
This role requires flexibility and availability to work throughout the DC–Maryland–Virginia (DMV) metro region at WMATA-designated facilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain strict confidentiality of all employee and applicant medical files, records, and testing information in accordance with HIPAA, DOT, and WMATA policies.
- Coordinate scheduling of employees and applicants for required WMATA medical examinations.
- Perform calibration and quality assurance functions on medical testing equipment to ensure test credibility.
- Maintain collection sites and work areas in clean, safe, and compliant condition per OSHA standards.
- Administer and operate breath alcohol testing devices (Evidential Breath Testing Device); ensure equipment remains in proper operating condition and perform minor adjustments when necessary.
- Prepare individuals for medical and compliance testing; complete required documentation and forms.
- Conduct urine specimen collections and breath alcohol testing in compliance with DOT/FTA regulations and WMATA policy.
- Ensure integrity of chain-of-custody procedures, labeling, and specimen control.
- Maintain and update all documentation and data associated with WMATA’s alcohol and drug testing program.
- Enter and manage data using automated systems; generate reports and summaries as needed.
- Provide educational materials and promote awareness regarding drug and alcohol abuse prevention.
- Testify as a subject matter expert in arbitrations or legal proceedings related to testing processes and results.
- Provide collection services at off-site locations and during varying shifts, including weekends and holidays, as required.

Pay: $28.00 - $236.00 per hour
