SPED Aide (Special Education Aide)
Location: Berkeley Preparatory Academy
Position Type: Full-Time, Non-Exempt
Reports To: Special Education Teacher
Position Overview:
The Special Education Aide assists students with disabilities by providing classroom support, helping with physical and educational tasks, and working directly with students to ensure they receive the support they need to succeed.
Key Responsibilities:

Provide one-on-one or small group support to students with disabilities.

Assist with implementing educational plans and supporting instructional activities.

Help students with physical, social, or emotional challenges as needed.

Support students in following the classroom routines and school policies.

Aid students in completing assignments, projects, and tasks under the teacher’s guidance.

Assist in behavior management and help students maintain focus and engagement.

Assist in maintaining a safe, supportive classroom environment for all students.

Help with the preparation and organization of classroom materials.

Any other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
-
High school diploma or equivalent (Associate's degree preferred).

Experience working with children with disabilities preferred.

Ability to work effectively with students, teachers, and staff.

Patience and a commitment to supporting students with special needs.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate effectively; sit, stand, walk, and use hands to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
This position operates in a professional school environment. The role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and instructional materials. Noise level is typically moderate, but can be higher during student-centered activities or events. Occasional local travel for school-related functions may be required.
This position is classified as Non-Exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and is in accordance with applicable federal and South Carolina labor laws.
