What are the responsibilities and job description for the Rail Construction Engineer (Entry-Level) position at Bergmann Associates?
We are looking for an Entry-level Rail Construction Engineer to join #TeamBergmann!
What You'll Be Doing: This position supports our Rail Construction Management projects on-site in a variety of functions, including design functions, estimating, QA/QC, and oversite of projects.
What We're Looking For: The ideal candidate has a Bachelor’s degree or higher in Civil Engineering or Construction Management and a minimum of internship experience working in the transportation and/or construction management field. Candidates with prior rail, construction, and/or bridge experience are highly preferred. All candidates should have some experience with Microstation, InRoads, and/or OpenRoads.
What You'll Need to Be Successful:
• Develop drawings by modifying or replicating prior projects
• Ability to create drawings from sketches
• Ability to ensure designs are in accordance with company and client production and design standards.
• Proficient in CAD
• A strong work ethic, excellent attention to detail, and eagerness to learn
• A team player and be able to work independently
Our Rail Construction Engineers also:
• Perform engineering calculations and create estimates
• Research and apply code provisions to design
• Complete Inspector Daily Reports (IDRs) for assigned work activities, contractor labor and equipment and materials incorporated into the project
• Create cost estimates for project alternatives
• Perform QA/QC by verifying design methodology, calculations, outcomes, etc.
• Interpret drawings from multiple disciplines for specific projects
• Create 3D models
• Operate relevant material testing equipment
• Provide technical assistance and help resolve challenges related to the construction operations
• Attend preconstruction meetings and progress meetings
• Research design options and document findings for project engineer/manager
• Oversee, document, and verify the work and daily activities of rail and bridge construction crews to ensure compliance with contract documents and plans
• Work with senior engineers to create project designs and begin project start up activities
