Summary of the position:
BEPC is seeking a highly motivated Construction and Safety Manager to join our client’s site in San Jose, CA. This role will support construction management, safety, and quality oversight on capital projects involving facility retrofits and expansions, clean room installations, and equipment installations for semiconductor R&D cleanrooms. The Construction and Safety Manager will work closely with general contractors, safety personnel, quality teams, and project stakeholders to ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with approved specifications and procedures.
Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:
- Oversee construction sites, general contractors, and workers to ensure a high level of safety and quality, with a goal of zero safety incidents on all projects.
- Partner with safety and quality managers to address and resolve safety and quality concerns.
- Coordinate with contractors, EHS, and project teams to ensure timely reporting of incidents and near misses.
- Participate in investigations, develop corrective actions, and verify their effectiveness.
- Manage day-to-day coordination of construction activities, ensuring contractor efficiency.
- Ensure all work is performed in accordance with approved project specifications and procedures.
- Identify deviations from plans and implement corrective actions as required.
- Coordinate Change Management with Project Management, including review of contractor justifications, estimates, and change order negotiations.
- Review and manage contractor construction schedules in coordination with project management.
- Review weekly and monthly reports on contract status, project progress, costs, and potential changes.
- Coordinate project updates, including safety and quality meetings as needed.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless project coordination.
- Support contractor permitting efforts, including coordination between the engineer of record and authorities having jurisdiction.
- Coordinate all required building inspections.
- Conduct quality assurance inspections during and after completion of work to ensure compliance with customer-specific requirements.
- Support project onboarding processes for contractors, crews, and other team members.
- Drive the safety program, including incident and near-miss investigations, root-cause analysis, and corrective-action tracking and verification.
- Coordinate with contractors, EHS, and project teams to ensure timely closure and documentation of safety actions.
- Provide KPI information, including construction hours, safety metrics, and construction progress reporting.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Main Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture, or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.
- 10 years of experience as a Construction Manager.
- Experience with commercial building construction.
- Experience with clean room construction.
- Experience with installation of chemical production processes.
- California construction management experience.
- Experience interpreting ASME, ACI, Building Construction, and Owner Standards and Procedures.
- Experience with accident investigations and reports.
- Proficiency with MS Office Suite.
- Knowledge of construction technology, safety, and quality principles.
- Ability to conduct risk assessments and implement mitigation plans
Certifications:
- OSHA 30 Certification (minimum).
- First Aid and CPR Certification.
