Overview
Join our team as a Part-Time Cook and help provide nutritious, appealing meals that support the health and well-being of our residents. The Cook is responsible for preparing and serving meals in accordance with established menus, recipes, dietary requirements, and food safety standards. This position plays an important role in creating a positive dining experience while maintaining a clean, safe, and organized kitchen environment.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and cook meals according to approved menus, recipes, portion guidelines, and residents' dietary needs.
- Ensure meals are served on time and presented in an attractive and appetizing manner.
- Follow all food safety, sanitation, and infection control procedures in accordance with state and facility guidelines.
- Properly store, label, and rotate food items using FIFO (First In, First Out) procedures.
- Assist with food preparation for daily meals, snacks, special events, and holiday celebrations.
- Clean and sanitize kitchen equipment, food preparation areas, dining areas, and dishwashing stations.
- Monitor food temperatures and maintain required documentation for meal service and storage.
- Work closely with the Dining Services Director, Kitchen Manager, and care staff to meet residents' nutritional needs and preferences.
- Assist with receiving, unloading, and storing food and supply deliveries.
- Report equipment malfunctions, safety concerns, or food shortages to the supervisor promptly.
- Provide courteous and respectful service to residents, families, visitors, and coworkers.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Previous experience in food service, healthcare dining, assisted living, long-term care, or restaurant settings preferred.
- Knowledge of food safety, sanitation practices, and proper food handling procedures.
- Ability to follow recipes, menus, production schedules, and special diet instructions.
- Ability to safely operate commercial kitchen equipment.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Dependable attendance and punctuality.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, lift, and carry up to 30 pounds during scheduled shifts.
- Must successfully complete required background checks and training in accordance with Tennessee regulations and facility policies.
Preferred Qualifications
- Food Handler Permit or ServSafe Certification.
- Experience working with seniors in an assisted living, memory care, or healthcare setting.
- Knowledge of therapeutic diets, texture-modified diets, and nutrition standards for older adults.
