Interns will play a key role in promoting and facilitating restorative justice practices on campus. This opportunity allows students to gain hands-on experience in conflict resolution, community engagement, and social justice while making a meaningful impact within the Beloit College community. Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities: Organize and co-lead training sessions for new facilitators, including students, staff, and faculty, to introduce them to restorative justice practices. Assist in the development and promotion of training materials to ensure effective learning experiences. Actively advocate for restorative justice, raising awareness and promoting RJ as a valuable tool for community building and conflict resolution on campus. Receive and assess referrals from individuals or groups seeking restorative justice services. Communicate with all involved parties to understand the nature of the conflict or issue. Schedule and organize pre-conferencing meetings to prepare participants for the restorative process. Facilitate pre-conferencing meetings, compiling and synthesizing notes, and communicating with all parties to set an agenda for the formal conference. Support the facilitation of restorative circles, ensuring a safe and respectful environment for all participants. Follow up with all involved parties to ensure ongoing communication, progress, and resolution after the conferencing process. Credentials and Experience: Current student at Beloit College with a strong interest in restorative justice, conflict resolution, or social justice. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to engage and interact effectively with diverse individuals and groups. Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines with attention to detail and organization. Compassionate, empathetic, and able to handle sensitive and confidential information, preferred. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Examples: Commitment to upholding the values of restorative justice, including accountability, empathy, and community building. Availability to commit to a flexible schedule, including some evening or weekend work for facilitation, trainings or events and engagement with RJ practices beyond the classroom. Regular meetings and open communication with the Restorative Justice Program Director(s).
