JOB OVERVIEW:
The English Teacher at Bellarmine Preparatory School is responsible for providing high-quality instruction in English to students, fostering a positive and engaging learning environment, and contributing to the overall academic and moral development of students. The English Teacher will inspire a love for literature and language, fostering critical thinking, effective communication, and a deep appreciation for the written word. The teacher should embody the values and principles of Jesuit education, emphasizing the Ignatian philosophy of cura personalis (care for the whole person) and the Jesuit commitment to academic excellence, service, and justice.
CORE FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES:
- Curriculum Development:
- Design and implement a rigorous and engaging English curriculum that aligns with national standards and reflects the school's mission.
- Integrate Jesuit values and ethical considerations into the study of literature and language.
- Instruction and Classroom Management:
- Conduct dynamic and interactive English classes, covering various genres of literature, writing skills, and critical analysis.
- Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages students to express themselves effectively through both written and spoken communication.
- Inspire a love for literature by exposing students to a diverse range of literary works, including classic and contemporary texts.
- Encourage students to explore and appreciate different literary genres and cultural perspectives.

- Strong knowledge of literature across various genres and periods.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Previous teaching experience, preferably at the high school level.
