About Bellarmine Preparatory School

Bellarmine Preparatory School is a Catholic, co-educational college preparatory high school in the Jesuit tradition, serving approximately 920 students in Tacoma, Washington. Our mission is to graduate young men and women of competence, compassion, and conscience, committed to leadership and service. Guided by the principle of cura personalis — care for the whole person — Bellarmine integrates academic excellence with formation, faith, and a deep commitment to justice and community.

Bellarmine is a dynamic and innovative learning community. Our faculty and staff are expected to grow professionally, embrace new ideas, and contribute to a culture where technology, pedagogy, and mission are held together with intention.

Position Overview

Bellarmine Preparatory School seeks an Educational Technology Innovation Specialist who is passionate about classroom innovation, student learning, and the thoughtful use of technology to advance teaching and learning. This is a full-time, 12-month position designed for a hands-on practitioner who lives in classrooms — co-teaching with faculty, designing technology-rich lessons, and helping students and teachers explore what is possible with current and emerging tools.

The Innovation Specialist is Bellarmine’s primary classroom-facing technology partner. The role spends most of its time in instructional spaces across all departments — building integration plans with teachers, modeling new approaches with students, and championing innovative uses of technology that align with curriculum goals and Jesuit pedagogy. Bellarmine seeks someone with a clear vision for the future of classroom technology and the practical skills to bring that vision to life across the school.

The successful candidate will have genuine instructional instincts, strong classroom presence, an appetite for innovation, and a commitment to student data privacy and responsible technology use.

Role Focus and Priorities

This is a classroom-embedded instructional integration role, not a help desk, network engineering, or facilities role. The Innovation Specialist works directly with teachers and students across all departments, partnering with the Network Operations Manager and academic leadership to bring innovative technology integration to life in Bellarmine classrooms.

The Innovation Specialist’s primary priorities, in order, are:

  • Classroom-embedded technology integration with teachers and students across all departments
  • Identifying, piloting, and championing emerging educational technologies, including AI tools that support classroom learning
  • Student technology onboarding and digital literacy curriculum
  • Software vetting and student data privacy stewardship

Secondary responsibilities include SIS and LMS instructional support, parent-facing technology programming, and consultative input on learning space design. Network infrastructure, security operations, and primary ownership of facilities-level technology projects are held by the Network Operations Manager and Facilities team.

Core Responsibilities

Classroom Integration and Instructional Innovation

  • Spend the majority of work hours in classrooms across all departments, partnering with teachers on technology integration, lesson design, and student-centered innovation.
  • Co-teach lessons with faculty, model integration approaches, and provide hands-on support as teachers adopt new tools and instructional practices.
  • Identify emerging educational technologies, evaluate their fit for Bellarmine’s mission and student learning needs, and lead pilot implementations with willing departments and faculty.
  • Develop department-specific technology integration roadmaps in partnership with department chairs that align tool use with curriculum goals and the Ignatian Pedagogical Paradigm (IPP).
  • Champion a culture of innovation, experimentation, and reflective practice in classroom technology use.
  • Integrate ISTE standards for students, educators, and leaders into daily technology practice.
  • Support technology access and tool recommendations for diverse learners in collaboration with the Academic Center of Excellence (ACE).
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of technology integration using data and direct observation, and use findings to guide future initiatives.

AI in the Classroom

  • Lead the integration of AI tools into classroom instruction, including hands-on faculty support, lesson design partnerships, and student AI literacy.
  • Manage and support school-approved AI platforms (currently Flint AI, Google Gemini, Microsoft Copilot, NotebookLM), including faculty onboarding and ongoing classroom support.
  • Evaluate emerging AI tools for instructional fit, classroom application, and student data privacy alignment.
  • Promote responsible AI use practices that honor student data privacy, academic integrity, and Jesuit values of discernment and whole-person development.

Student Technology Training and Onboarding

  • Design and facilitate new student technology orientation each August, including iPad onboarding, device setup through Jamf School, and access to the school’s student information system.
  • Develop and teach student-facing digital literacy curriculum, including responsible use expectations, data privacy awareness, and tool fluency.
  • Lead or support a student EdTech advisory group to incorporate student voice in technology planning and evaluation.
  • Provide supplemental student training when new platforms or tools are adopted school-wide.

Professional Development and Faculty Support

  • Organize and facilitate professional development sessions, lunch-and-learns, and embedded learning opportunities related to educational technology.
  • Coordinate with instructional coaches and academic leadership as appropriate when technology integration intersects with their work.
  • Provide role-specific technology onboarding for new faculty and staff across departments, including Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, Blackbaud (myBellarmine), Flint AI, and department-specific tools.
  • In collaboration with the VP, support faculty in understanding and adhering to the school’s Responsible Use Policy (RUP).

Systems Administration and SIS Support

  • Provide instructional support for Blackbaud (myBellarmine), including LMS, gradebook, assessment tools, and individual academic plan documentation workflows.
  • Manage and maintain the school’s learning management infrastructure to support instructional delivery and student engagement.
  • Manage and support classroom management and assessment integrity tools — including Apple Classroom for iPad-based instruction, lockdown browsers, and assessment-mode configurations within Blackbaud and other school-adopted platforms — with faculty training and ongoing support.
  • Maintain working familiarity with Google Workspace for Education Plus, Microsoft 365, Jamf School, and Microsoft Intune, providing instructional and operational support as needed.
  • Manage student- and parent-facing EdTech resources in the school’s information portal, coordinating with appropriate staff to keep documentation current.
  • Support event and testing technology setup in coordination with faculty and the Network Operations Manager.

Software Review, Vetting, and Vendor Relations

  • Own and manage a structured software vetting process for all technology tools proposed for use with students or faculty, including review of vendor privacy policies, data handling practices, and student data agreements.
  • Maintain a software vetting log documenting the review status and data classification of all active and pending tools.
  • Ensure all school-adopted platforms have executed a Student Data Privacy Agreement before deployment.
  • Conduct an annual audit of software subscriptions with renewal and cancellation recommendations for leadership.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact with educational technology vendors for onboarding, training, and contract coordination.
  • Manage EdTech procurement in collaboration with the VP and business office.

Learning Space and Testing Infrastructure (Consultative)

  • Provide instructional and user-experience input on learning space design projects — including classroom display, projection, connectivity, and furniture decisions — in collaboration with Facilities and the Network Operations Manager, who hold primary ownership.
  • Coordinate the technology aspects of testing infrastructure with department chairs, in collaboration with the Network Operations Manager.
  • Communicate emerging user technology needs to inform network and infrastructure planning.

Data Privacy, Student Safety, and Compliance

  • Apply working knowledge of FERPA, COPPA, and related federal student data privacy frameworks in software vetting, procurement, and faculty training contexts.
  • Develop and maintain faculty and student training on data privacy expectations, appropriate tool use, and PII awareness.
  • Conduct annual re-review of active software subscriptions for changes in privacy policies or data sharing terms.
  • Collaborate with the Network Operations Manager on the technical security dimensions of student data protection.
  • Support a culture of student safeguarding in all technology-related practices, consistent with the school’s broader safety framework.

Data Literacy and Technology Evaluation

  • Use data from technology platforms — usage analytics, LMS engagement reports, AI dashboards, device management data — to evaluate adoption, identify support needs, and inform recommendations to leadership.
  • Synthesize survey data, faculty feedback, and student input from technology reviews into clear reports with actionable recommendations.
  • Read and interpret Blackbaud reports and data exports at a user level sufficient to support faculty with gradebook, assessment, and LMS functions.

Parent and Family Support

  • Provide parent-facing technology support including device management portal orientation, at-home device guidance, and student information system navigation.
  • Maintain parent-facing documentation and resources on the school’s information portal.
  • Present to parent groups on student technology use, AI literacy, and Bellarmine’s EdTech philosophy as needed.

Collaboration and Community

  • Serve as a standing contributor to the Instructional Coach Team, Department Chair Meetings, Academic Center of Excellence (ACE) Team, EdTech Committee (including student voice), and EdTech Team meetings.
  • Foster a culture of innovation, continuous improvement, and shared responsibility for technology use across the Bellarmine community.
  • Network with peer Catholic and independent school EdTech communities to stay current on emerging practices, tools, and student privacy standards.
  • Participate fully as a Bellarmine community member in weekly duties and school events as assigned.
