Position Summary:
The Machine Shop Manager oversees daily operations of a machine shop, ensuring efficient production, high-quality output, and a safe working environment. This role is responsible for managing personnel, coordinating workflows, maintaining equipment, and meeting production deadlines.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operations Management
- Plan, organize, and supervise daily machine shop activities
- Ensure production schedules are met on time
- Optimize workflow, staffing, and machine utilization
- Team Leadership
- Hire, train, and supervise machinists, CNC operators, and support staff
- Conduct performance evaluations and provide coaching
- Foster a positive, productive, and safety-focused work environment
- Quality Control
- Ensure all parts meet specifications and quality standards
- Implement and maintain quality assurance procedures
- Address and resolve production or quality issues
- Equipment & Maintenance
- Oversee maintenance and repair of machines and tools
- Coordinate preventive maintenance schedules
- Evaluate and recommend new equipment or upgrades
- Safety & Compliance
- Enforce workplace safety standards and regulations
- Conduct safety training and audits
- Ensure compliance with company policies and industry standards
- Process Improvement
- Identify opportunities to improve efficiency and reduce waste
- Implement lean manufacturing or continuous improvement initiatives
- Monitor production metrics
- Inventory Management

Qualifications
- Education
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Associate’s degree in manufacturing, engineering, or related field preferred
- Experience
- 5 years of experience in machining or manufacturing
- 2–3 years in a supervisory or management role
- Strong knowledge of CNC machining, tooling, and fabrication processes
- Skills
- Leadership and team management
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities
- Knowledge of CAD/CAM software
- Understanding of lean manufacturing principles
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
