Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Activities Director to lead and enhance our recreational programs for seniors in a nurturing environment. The ideal candidate will have a passion for improving the quality of life for residents through engaging activities and social interactions. This position requires high levels of energy and enthusiasm. This role is essential in fostering a sense of community and well-being among our residents, ensuring they remain active and connected. This is a hybrid position (75% of hours on location; 25% off location) with flexible hours.
Program
1. Providing socialization through group discussion, conversation, recreation, visiting, arts and crafts, music, and care of pets.
2. Providing daily living activities to foster and maintain independent functioning;
3. Providing physical activities such as games, sports, and exercises, which develop and maintain strength, coordination, and range of motion.
4. Providing education through special classes or activities.
5. Providing leisure time, so residents may engage in activities of their own choosing;
6. Gardening
7. Utilizing community resources to promote resident participation in activities both in and away from the facility.
8. Attendance at a place of worship of the resident's choice.
9. Based on resident needs and interests, the activity coordinator will develop monthly schedule and post activities calendars monthly. The new month will be posted before the first of that month. Information on community activities will be available to residents.
Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and oversee a comprehensive activities program tailored to the interests and needs of residents.
- Coordinate recreational therapy sessions that promote physical, emotional, and social well-being.
- Collaborate with team leader and administrator to ensure activities align with individual care plans.
- Organize special events, outings, and community engagement opportunities to enrich residents' experiences.
- Maintain accurate records of participation and feedback to continually improve programming.
- Communicate effectively with residents, families, and staff to promote upcoming activities and gather input.
- Assist in training and supervising volunteers or staff involved in activity planning and execution.
Skills /Abilities
- Strong background in home community care or senior care settings.
- Experience in recreational therapy or related fields is highly desirable to develop a diversified activities program.
- Excellent communication skills to engage effectively and build relationships with residents, families, and team members.
- Ability to assist with caregiving tasks as needed while promoting independence among residents.
- A compassionate approach to caregiving that prioritizes the dignity and respect of all individuals and identifies the needs and interests of residents.
- Strong organizational skills to manage multiple activities simultaneously while ensuring quality experiences for participants.
