Duties
- Administer prescribed medications to residents in accordance with physician orders, ensuring proper dosage and timing.
- Assist with medication documentation using Electronic Medical Records (EMR) and Electronic Health Records (EHR) systems such as PointClickCare.
- Monitor residents' vital signs, including blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and respiration, recording findings precisely for medical review.
- Support residents with activities of daily living such as personal hygiene, mobility, and feeding, including specialized tasks like tube feeding and catheter care.
- Observe and report any changes in residents' physical or mental condition, including symptoms related to dementia, Alzheimer's disease, or other memory impairments.
- Maintain compliance with HIPAA regulations to ensure confidentiality of all medical information.
- Assist in caring for residents with complex needs such as hospice or palliative care, providing compassionate support aligned with their care plans.
- Collaborate closely with nursing staff and healthcare professionals to coordinate comprehensive patient care across various settings including assisted living, hospitals, or community-based environments.
- Follow all safety protocols related to infection control, medical procedures, and medication handling to promote a safe environment for residents and staff alike.
- Participate in ongoing training related to medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and specialized care techniques like dementia or memory care.
Requirements
- Valid certification as a Medication Aide (or equivalent credential) recognized by state regulations.
- Prior experience working in assisted living facilities, nursing homes, hospitals, or home care environments preferred.
- Demonstrated knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and medication administration procedures.
- Experience working with diverse populations including seniors, individuals with developmental disabilities or disabilities-related conditions such as Alzheimer's disease or dementia.
- Proficiency with EMR/EHR systems such ; familiarity with medical documentation standards is essential.
- Strong understanding of HIPAA compliance and confidentiality protocols related to patient information.
- Ability to accurately measure vital signs and perform basic nursing tasks such as tube feeding and catheter care.
- Excellent communication skills to effectively collaborate with healthcare teams and support residents' needs compassionately.
- Physical ability to stand for extended periods and assist residents with mobility needs safely.
